Venkatesh Rao has admitted in an interview with Sky Sport News that he is planning a “big discussion” with fellow Blackburn co-owners Balaji Rao and Anuradha Desai over the weekend as he seeks to address the club’s poor start to the season.
Only sixth-favourites for the drop in June, Blackburn’s run of just a single win from their opening seven games has led to their odds shortening from 3/1 to evens.
This makes them second-favourites to go down behind Swansea (17/20), with Norwich (11/10), Wigan (11/10), Bolton (5/2) and QPR (11/4) among the other contenders.
A successful £25 free bet on Blackburn going down would now return £50 rather than the £100 punters could have won in June.
On the back of this, Venkatesh Rao has already spoken to Rovers boss Steve Kean and is planning talks with brother Balaji and sister Anuradha.
“I have spoken with Steve and we are working on our weak points,” he told the news provider.
“We are going to sit this weekend and we are going to have a very big discussion over this.
“I’m sure we are going into the depth of it and believe me, myself, my sister and my brother, all of us are going to sit and have a long, long chat and come out with some plan of action.”
The big question is whether this plan of action will be enough to turn the club’s fortunes around or if Blackburn are destined to drop down to the Championship.
A growing number of Blackburn fans believe that sacking Kean would lead to improved performances on the pitch, and the stats certainly back that up.
Since replacing Sam Allardyce as manager in November, Kean has seen Blackburn pick up just 26 points from 28 league games.
On this sort of form, Blackburn would finish the season on 35 points, which would have seen them relegated in three of the last five campaigns.
However, it remains to be seen whether the owners’ plan of action includes Kean’s sacking – despite the evidence which suggests keeping the Scot makes Blackburn better relegation bets.
