Blackburn Rovers are now odds-on to finish in the bottom three at the end of the 2011/12 season following their latest defeat at the weekend.
The Lancashire outfit went down 2-1 to Tottenham at Ewood Park on Sunday which left them rooted to the bottom of the Premier League with just five points from their first nine matches.
This resulted in their relegation odds being cut from evens to 19/20, meaning a successful £25 free bet on Rovers to go down would now return £48.75 rather than £50.
Worryingly for Blackburn, their relegation odds have regularly shortened in recent weeks having been 3/1 before the start of the season.
Manager Steve Kean is now under huge pressure to turn his side’s fortunes around and is fast running out of time, with Blackburn’s trip to Norwich widely seen as crucial to his chances of avoiding the sack.
Rovers need a positive result against a team expected to be scrapping at the bottom of the table at the end of the season, although Blackburn are underdogs going into the match given Norwich’s encouraging start to the season.
While Rovers’ relegation odds have been coming in, those for Norwich have been going out, with the Canaries now 2/1 to go down having been 3/5 second-favourites in June.
This means a successful £25 free bet on Norwich to go down would return £75, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
Although Rovers look doomed, at least as long as Kean remains in charge, this should not stop people from betting on Norwich to go down, particularly given their attractive new price.
The Canaries might have started well but their lack of top flight experience could come back to haunt them in the season run-in.
This could give battle-hardened teams like Wigan and Bolton – who find themselves in the bottom three along with Blackburn – the edge, sucking Norwich back into the relegation reckoning.
Hull and Blackpool have both started well before being involved in final-day relegation cliffhangers in recent seasons and, at 2/1, punters could do worse than back Norwich to suffer a similar fate.
