Fulham fans never accepted Martin Jol’s decision to let Bobby Zamora join west London rivals QPR and they’ll be even less forgiving should their former hero score in his first game against them since leaving.
Having got his QPR career off to a good start when he opened the scoring against Wolves, it’s worth backing him to do so again at 11/2 against notoriously poor travellers Fulham.
New customers using the free £25 bet they receive when registering with bwin would win £162.50 if Zamora returns to haunt his former side by breaking the deadlock at Loftus Road.
Martin Jol’s team have conceded the first goal in nine away games this season, so if Zamora doesn’t strike then QPR have other players who can take advantage.
With Djibril Cisse suspended and Heidar Helguson injured, Jay Bothroyd and Federico Macheda will fight it out to start alongside Zamora, making both good bets to score any time at 3/2.
However, with Jamie Mackie (15/2 to score any time) and Shaun Wright-Phillips (10/1) both in better form, Rs boss Mark Hughes may opt for a 4-3-3 approach to try to break down a Fulham defence which he is very knowledgeable about, having managed at Craven Cottage last season.
Despite their poor away record (three straight defeats in 2012), Fulham will be confident of scoring against QPR, having hit six past them in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
With the hat-trick hero from that game, Andrew Johnson, out with injury, Jol will no doubt look to Clint Dempsey to lead the line.
Having recently become the top-scoring American in Premier League history on the back of seven goals in his last six games, Dempsey is well priced at 9/5 to score at any time.
Fulham fans will also hope that Pavel Pogrebnyak continues to help them forget about Zamora with a repeat of his debut goal and with Jol likely to employ him as an impact sub, it’s worth backing him at 6/1 to score last.
