Manchester United are now 27/20 with bwin to sign Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas after lodging a £25 million bid to sign the former Arsenal man – but the Spaniard is still long odds-on to remain at the Camp Nou beyond the end of the summer transfer window.
After missing out on another target from Barcelona, midfielder Thiago Alcantara, who is now due to sign for former manager Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, new United boss David Moyes has now set his sights on Fabregas and news of an official offer for the ex-Gunners skipper shows that the Glazer family are ready to back their new boss.
Moyes has yet to make a major signing since taking over from Sir Alex Ferguson but has identified Fabregas as a main target with the 26-year-old struggling to make an impact under Tito Vilanova.
Central midfield is the one problem area for Moyes as he looks to build on the success of Ferguson’s champions.
With Anderson out of favour, Darren Fletcher’s fitness unclear and Paul Scholes retired, only Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley will definitely be part of the Scot’s plans.
And with Fabregas thought to be viewed as an ideal replacement for Scholes, bwin are offering odds of 27/20 that the Spain international signs for United this summer.
But bwin still believe that Fabregas will remain at Barcelona this summer, going 1/4 that he stays put.
Just last month, Fabregas seemed to deny he was on the move, saying: “I’ve always said that I’m happy at Barca. Whoever says that I’m leaving doesn’t know me and has never spoken with me.
“Nor with my agent, because he knows that I don’t want him to talk with other people about me. I’m very private and I don’t even talk about these things with my family.
“If someone says anything that isn’t that I want to play at Barca, it’s completely absurd.”
Arsenal, who are believed to have first refusal on Fabregas should he leave, are 7/2 to sign their former No.4, while it is at least 22/1 he signs for any other club.
