Manchester City will aim to keep their faint hopes of retaining their Premier League title alive when they take on Aston Villa on Monday night at Villa Park.
Roberto Mancini has seen his side lose just once in their past eight league matches, but their grip on the title has loosened greatly as Manchester United have forged a 15-point advantage at the top of the table and City can’t afford to drop any more points in their pursuit of back-to-back championships.
The three points should be theirs for the taking on Monday as Aston Villa have won just once in ten league games, have slipped into the bottom three and appear to be in real danger of dropping out of the Premier League for the first time.
Man City enter the game as 11/25 favourites, with Aston Villa at 25/4 in bwin’s 3-way betting market and the draw offered at 16/5.
But if those result odds don’t tickle your fancy, take a look at these five stats you probably won’t have read anywhere else.
3: The number of times Villa have managed to score more than once at home to Man City in the Premier League era from a total of 15 meetings. Paul Lambert’s Villa side are 17/5 to score over 1.5 goals on Monday night.
6: The number of times that Christian Benteke has scored the first goal in a game, while no other Villa player has scored more than one opener. The Belgian international is 9/1 to provide a seventh deadlock breaker at Villa Park.
8: Out of the past ten games, eight have seen Roberto Mancini’s City keep a clean sheet and only seven goals have been scored past them this side of Christmas. City are priced at 27/20 to win to nil and Villa are 21/20 not to score.
8: The number of times that Man City have scored exactly two goals in a Premier League game this season, including in their 2-0 win over Chelsea last weekend. The Citizens are 23/10 to strike twice again at Villa Park.
36: The number of goals Aston Villa have conceded in the second halves of their matches in the Premier League this term – more than any other team. Man City are to 7/10 win the second half and 5/4 to score more goals after half-time than they do before it.
