Odds of 33/100 for the victory indicate Arsenal are set to record their first win of the Premier League season against Swansea on Saturday.
A Champions League play-off win over Udinese aside, Arsenal have had a disastrous start to the 2011-12 campaign.
After opening up with a 0-0 draw away to Newcastle, Arsene Wenger’s side slumped to successive defeats against Liverpool (2-0) and Manchester United (8-2).
This has left them just one place above the relegation zone in 17th, two places below their opponents this weekend.
However, Arsenal look well placed to secure their first three points of the season against a Swansea side still finding their feet in English football’s top flight.
Brendan Rodgers’ men have yet to score in their three Premier League matches to date and, although they have kept two clean sheets at home, their one match away from the comforts of the Liberty Stadium saw them beaten 4-0 by Manchester City.
This helps to explain why odds on an Arsenal win are so short in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with a draw priced at 15/4 and a Swansea victory at 33/4.
Another factor to consider is that the Gunners will be boosted by the addition to their ranks of Per Mertesacker, Andre Santos, Yossi Benayoun, Mikel Arteta and Chu-Young Park, all of whom were signed in the lead-up to the summer transfer deadline.
Their arrivals were much needed given the selection headache Wenger was facing, with Gervinho, Carl Jenkinson and Alexandre Song suspended and Abou Diaby, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Theo Walcott, Tomas Rosicky and Sebastien Squillaci ruled out or doubtful through injury.
Given the calibre of their reinforcements and Swansea’s problems in front of goal, Arsenal will be looking to keep a clean sheet at odds of 19/20.
However, the fact a number of players will be making debuts for the Gunners will surely improve Swansea’s chances of breaking their duck while also limiting Arsenal’s attacking fluency.
It should also be noted that Swansea have had a number of opportunities to register their first goal of the campaign, suggesting it is only a matter of time before they hit the back of the net.
With this in mind, a bet on the Swans to score at 3/4 may be a better option.
That said, punters should not see this as a reason to head for the double chance market, where Swansea are 21/10 to secure a win or draw.
Arsenal might not be at their attacking best but they should still have enough to see off their opponents, regardless of whether the Welsh side score or not.
The Gunners scored close to two goals a game on average at home last season, and with the likes of Robin van Persie, Andrey Arshavin and Aaron Ramsey at Wenger’s disposal, the Frenchman is unlikely to see his side struggle in front of goal.
With this in mind, the best bet could be on a 2-1 Arsenal victory at odds of 29/4.
A successful £25 free bet on this scoreline would return £206.25, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
And as Arsenal are more likely to hit top gear in the second half – they had the best second-half home record in the league last term – a draw/Arsenal win in the half time/full time market could be another good option at 16/5.
