Arsenal have been installed as strong favourites to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the first north London derby of the season – and they look well worth backing now to get the job done.
The new Premier League fixtures were announced this morning and the computer has thrown up an intriguing early meeting between the bitter rivals as they will collide at the Emirates on August 31st.
Arsene Wenger’s men, who pipped Spurs to fourth place again in 2012/13, are rated as an even-money chance to pick up all three points, as they did in last season’s corresponding fixture with a thumping 5-2 win.
The draw is available at 12/5 while Tottenham are priced up as 49/20 outsiders, but their record in N5 – just one win in their last 22 visits – suggests Arsenal are well worth their favouritism.
And considering how different the north London landscape may look when the fixture arrives, the price on the Gunners should surely be taken as soon as possible.
Wenger is widely expected to add a handful of high-class signings to his squad, headed by Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, who is as short as 2/5 to make the switch to the Emirates.
Meanwhile, Spurs could lose star man Gareth Bale this summer, with Los Blancos and big-spending French champions Paris-St Germain both determined to secure his services for next term.
If such a scenario does unfold, Arsenal will surely be a solid odds-on play to score a morale-boosting triumph by the time Andre Villas-Boas’ men make the short trip down Seven Sisters Road.
As such, our early offer of evens on the Gunners looks pretty generous, so why not get back into the betting swing this afternoon by snapping it up?
