Anybody apart from Sunderland boss Gus Poyet finding the festive football fixture list to be a ‘disgrace’?
Us neither. Here are our three best bets for the Sunday 3pms.
Manchester City v Burnley – David Silva to score the first goal @ 7/2 (with double winnings)
A constant criticism of the Spanish maestro has been his inability to rack up big goal-totals since signing on at City from Valencia in the summer of 2010, as outlined by Craig Kemp (Click here) earlier this season.
However, with three in his side’s last two Premier League games, and a handy tally of five in the top flight so far this term, Silva is finally beginning to convert his undoubted ability into scoreboard notches.
Three of the 28-year-old’s seven club-and-country strikes in 2014/15 have opened the scoring, which is a pretty tidy ratio, and with bwin.com pledging to double first-scorer odds in this fixture if they fire again, you could do a lot worse than getting on Silva for consecutive Etihad deadlock-breakers.
West Ham double chance v Arsenal @ 8/11
Making the Gunners 23/20 favourites at the Boleyn is a bit harsh on Sam Allardyce’s men, who are unbeaten at home in seven, winning six of those matches against the likes of Man City and Liverpool.
Arsenal, on the other hand, have won just one of their last four on the road in the Premier League, losing at Stoke and Swansea since the start of November, so it’s difficult to have any confidence in Arsene Wenger’s men in east London.
Stoke to beat West Brom @ 21/20
The Baggies are hovering perilously above the drop zone after a run of two wins from their past 12 top-flight fixtures, with just a couple of points between Alan Irvine’s charges and managerless Crystal Palace in 17th.
Seven Premier League losses have been incurred since the end of September by West Brom, during which time Stoke have won half of their Britannia Stadium games in the division, notably against Arsenal and Newcastle.
There was no shame in Mark Hughes’ men going down 2-0 to Chelsea last time out at home, and the Potters can make amends either way by claiming all the points here.
