Arsenal’s top-four challenge has been written off in some quarters in recent weeks but two significant results on the spin have the Gunners flying again.
A sensational 5-2 drubbing of Tottenham in the north London derby was followed by a 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, thanks to Robin van Persie’s stunning injury-time winner.
With Chelsea losing 1-0 at West Brom – and then losing manager Andre Villas-Boas – and Spurs being beaten by Manchester United, the battle between the three London clubs is becoming more and more intriguing by the week.
Spurs hold the advantage as they are currently third in the table, four points clear of Arsenal, and are the 11/20 favourites to finish the Premier League season as the capital’s highest-placed club.
But with Arsene Wenger’s men now entering the home straight full of confidence, they will be determined to hunt down and surpass their bitter rivals.
Arsenal are priced at a tempting 19/10 to be top London club and 7/5 to finish above Spurs, who are at 1/2 to hold off the Gunners’ charge.
Chelsea, who now find themselves three points behind Arsenal in fifth place after their reverse at the Hawthorns, are rated as 6/1 outsiders to be top dogs in London.
The Blues appear to be in disarray on and off the pitch but if you believe they will still snatch a top-four finish under caretaker boss Roberto Di Matteo, you can back them to do so at 7/5.
These odds could well be on the move after this weekend’s action, with Arsenal welcoming Newcastle, Spurs travelling to Everton and Chelsea taking on Stoke.
But for now, that 19/10 price on the Gunners finishing above their two main local rivals could well receive plenty of interest.
