New Liverpool signing Charlie Adam believes the Anfield outfit are close to being in a position to challenge for silverware next season.
The Reds finally completed the signing of the former Blackpool player yesterday (7th July) having doggedly pursued the midfield schemer since January.
Liverpool’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Jordan Henderson from Sundeland, Adam has immediately expressed his determination to help his new side end their trophy doubt.
Despite having secured the top-flight crown 18 times in the past, Liverpool have not won the English league championship since 1990.
Indeed, they have not landed a trophy since their 2006 FA Cup win over West Ham, during which time bitter rivals Manchester United have secured four Premier League titles, two League Cups, the Champions League and the Fifa Club World Cup.
However, Adam is confident that the calibre of manager and players now at Anfield means that the trophy drought can be ended sooner rather than later.
Liverpool are 10/1 fifth-favourites in bwin’s Premier League title betting market and 8/1 joint-fourth favourites with Arsenal to win the Carling Cup.
A successful £25 free bet on the Reds to lift the Carling Cup trophy this season, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £225.
“I see this as the perfect development for me to come here, play with such wonderful players and hopefully help the team to win trophies, because that’s the most important thing,” Adam commented.
“Hopefully we can have a successful period because it’s been missing now for a couple of years.
“At the end of the day you get judged on trophies and as a footballer you want to win as many as you can. This club has had a lot of success over the years, so let’s get back to doing that.”
Liverpool’s first match of the 2011-12 Premier League season will be at home to Sunderland on Saturday, 13th August.
Early Liverpool v Sunderland betting suggests the Reds will pick up all three points in their opening fixture.
