Port Vale’s odds to win League Two were slashed as they built upon their great start to the season by thrashing title favourites Rotherham United 6-2, while Exeter City and Gillingham also saw their prices for finishing first shorten after posting impressive away wins.

The Valiants’ superb destruction of the much-fancied Millers saw them move to third in the table as ex-Rotherham striker Tom Pope netted four goals against his former club to resign them to a miserable weekend.

The bwin bookies wasted no time in cutting Vale’s odds for the title, with Micky Adams’ men now a 20/1 chance, having been 28/1 prior to the latest round of fixtures.

A small consolation for Rotherham is that they are still deemed clear title favourites, despite drifting from 5/2 to 7/2, but the Millers will need to improve their form on the road, which still sees them winless away from the New York Stadium.

A brilliant away day for Exeter saw them beat Oxford United 4-2, meaning it is now four straight league wins for Paul Tisdale’s men. The Grecians can now be backed at a price of 14/1 to finish first, their odds having been cut from 20/1 after Saturday’s outstanding result.

Oxford have also started the season brightly but are now 12/1 to win the league, drifting out from 9/1 after being put to the sword by the south-coast club.

Table-toppers Gillingham beat Barnet 3-1 at Underhill to reinforce their promotion chances, remaining at a price of 10/1 to win the league, while Southend saw their title odds cut from 20/1 to 14/1 after home win over Essex rivals Dagenham and Redbridge by the same scoreline.

League Two new boys Fleetwood Town also won this weekend to see their title odds shorten from a price of 6/1 to 4/1.

An impressive 4-0 success at Morecambe saw them move to fourth in the league and that victory certainly cemented their spot as second favorites to finish top of the pile come next May.
