The cold snap has again claimed a number of fixtures in England’s third tier this weekend, but here are the best bets in those matches which remain at the time of writing.
Friday, February 10th
Southend United v Rotherham United
Home: 91/100 Draw: 12/5 Away: 13/5
Betting tip: Paul Sturrock’s men are currently on their worst run of the season in the league, having only recorded one point from a possible nine and their fans will be hoping this dip in form doesn’t cost them come May. The Millers have lost their last three in League Two and having to travel to Roots Hall is not what Andy Scott would have wanted right now. I can see the Shrimpers bouncing back into form in style here. Take them to win in the 0-1 handicap market at 12/5.
Saturday, February 11th
Bristol Rovers v Morecambe
Home: 23/20 Draw: 23/10 Away: 2/1
Betting tip: Mark McGhee has transformed the Pirates since taking over and having won his first two games will be confident of getting a result when they entertain Morecambe this weekend. The Shrimps have only won once in their last 11 games and look set to end the campaign in mid-table. This game could go either way but given Rovers’ recent form, I fancy them to nick it. I am going to predict a 2-1 home win at 15/2 as McGhee’s revolution continues.
Burton Albion v Gillingham
Home: 31/20 Draw: 11/5 Away: 31/20
Betting tip: Two sides who have hopes of extending their season with the playoff lottery meet at the Pirelli Stadium this weekend. Burton haven’t won a game since Boxing Day and will need to improve drastically if they are to finish in the promotion picture in May. The Gills have lost five of their last six matches but I see there being goals in this one. Back odds of 39/20 on over 3.5 goals being scored.
Crawley Town v Aldershot Town
Home: 11/25 Draw: 3/1 Away: 11/2
Betting tip: Crawley will come in to this fixture high on confidence following their crucial victory over fellow title-chasers Cheltenham in the week. Aldershot haven’t played since the end of January so should be fresh going into this clash but their win over AFC Wimbledon in their last outing was their first since the beginning of December. Back Steve Evans’ side in the 0-1 handicap market at 5/4 here.
Hereford United v Cheltenham Town
Home: 3/1 Draw: 11/5 Away: 17/20
Betting tip: The last thing Jamie Pitman would have wanted was to host league leaders Cheltenham as he fights desperately to keep the Bulls in League Two. Mark Yates will be expecting his side to bounce back from a crushing 4-2 defeat at Crawley in the week and you have to fear for Hereford here. You can get odds of 27/20 on Pitman’s side failing to score in this one – well worth a punt.
Torquay United v Shrewsbury Town
Home: 27/20 Draw: 2/1 Away: 19/10
Betting tip: The Gulls are one of the form sides in the league right now, having won their last five games while being unbeaten in their last seven outings. The Shrews have won their last three and will arrive at Plainmoor full of confidence. I can see this being the game of the weekend in League Two and a real goal-fest too. I would suggest backing odds of 11/4 on there being over 3.5 goals.
