Accrington Stanley v Barnet
Home win: 3/4 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 13/4
Betting tip: The Bees arrive off the back of their first win in five league games but could be in for a tough afternoon here. Stanley are on a fine run of form as they stretched their unbeaten sequence to ten league games with a 2-0 win at Burton last weekend. John Coleman’s side have won their last two games without conceding a goal and you can get odds of 29/20 on them keeping a third successive clean sheet in this one.
Bradford City v Morecambe
Home win: 13/10 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 39/20
Betting tip: Phil Parkinson will be happy to return to Valley Parade following two heavy defeats on the road in recent weeks. The Bantams are unbeaten in their last four home games and will fancy continuing that run when they host the Shrimps. Jim Bentley’s side have only won once in their last nine league games, but that did come in their last away game at Crewe. Morecambe’s poor run of form should allow Bradford to come out on top, but as the Shrimps have the third-best away record in the league expect them to make the Bantams work hard for the three points. Back a draw/Bradford win in the half time/full time market at 19/4.
Bristol Rovers v Crawley
Home win: 17/5 Draw: 5/2 Away win: 7/10
Betting tip: Things don’t get any easier for mangerless Rovers as they host league leaders Crawley this weekend at the Memorial Stadium. Crawley return to league action following a fine 1-0 win over Championship side Bristol City in the FA Cup and Steve Evans will be looking for a second successive victory over a side from Bristol here. I can’t see anything but an away win and will be backing Crawley to overcome a one-goal deficit in the handicap market at 19/10.
Cheltenham Town v Aldershot Town
Home win: 3/4 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 17/5
Betting tip: The Robins will return to league action having given a good account of themselves in their FA Cup defeat to Premier League Tottenham last weekend and confident of picking up another three points at home. The Shots have only picked up one point out of a possible 12 and you have to fear for them here as they visit one of the league’s in-form sides. Nevertheless, Aldershot have failed to score in their last four games and Cheltenham have only scored four in their last five so don’t expect too many goals in a home win. Take odds of 11/5 on there being under 1.5 goals.
Dagenham & Redbridge v Hereford United
Home win: 21/20 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 5/2
Betting tip: A real six pointer here as both sides know a win could be a springboard for them to push up the league ladder. Daggers have found some form in recent weeks and are currently on a six game unbeaten run in all competitions. The Bulls however have only won once in their last ten league games – their last away game when they won 2-0 at Burton. The Daggers therefore look to have the edge and with Hereford scoring just four times in the first half of their away matches, back Dagenham/Dagenham in the half time/full time market at 23/10.
Macclesfield Town v Torquay United
Home win: 9/5 Draw: 2/1 Away win: 29/20
Betting tip: The Silkmen find themselves stuck in mid-table in League Two but can take huge confidence from their impressive display against Premier League side Bolton last weekend in the FA Cup. The Gulls arrive at Moss Rose in fine form, having lost just once in their last ten league outings and Martin Ling will be looking for his side to replicate their last away performance when they won 2-1 at Plymouth. With both sides having designs on victory I see this one ending a score draw and will be backing the lead-draw at 31/10 in the run of play market.
Northampton Town v Southend United
Home win: 12/5 Draw: 23/10 Away win: Evens
Betting tip: Two sides with contrasting seasons meet at Sixfields this weekend as high flying Southend visit seemingly doomed Northampton. The Cobblers have only won once all season in front of their home fans and you can’t see them picking up a much needed three points here. The Shrimpers are unbeaten in three and sit just a point off top spot. I can’t see anything other than a resounding away win for Paul Sturrock’s side. Back them to overcome a one-goal deficit in the handicap market at 11/4 to boost the odds.
Oxford United v Crewe Alexandra
Home win: 7/10 Draw: 5/2 Away win: 17/5
Betting tip: The Bulls have found some form in recent weeks as they are currently enjoying a six game unbeaten run which has seen them climb to seventh in the League Two ladder. The Railwaymen arrive in inconsistent form which is reflected by their mid-table position. Oxford have only conceded one goal in six games and I fancy them to shut out Crewe here so suggest backing odds of 29/20 on the Railwaymen failing to find the net.
Plymouth Argyle v Burton Albion
Home win: 8/5 Draw: 11/5 Away: 3/2
Betting tip: The Pilgrims have only won once in their last six matches and fans are beginning to fear that their club’s league status is about to come to an end. Burton travel to Home Park on the back of two 2-0 home defeats and Paul Peschisolido will be hoping to prey on their hosts’ fragile form. But I reckon Plymouth can get a draw here given the Brewers’ poor form and suggest backing odds of 11/5 offered on a stalemate at Home Park.
Port Vale v AFC Wimbledon
Home win: 83/100 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 29/10
Betting tip: The Valiants have lost their last three games which has seen their promotion push take a knock. However, they know with a run of form towards the end of the season they can push themselves back in the play-off picture. The Dons, meanwhile, are in freefall. Without a win in 12 league games, they find themselves on a slippery slope down the league table. With both sides scoring and conceding plenty, I fancy a goal fest at Vale Park this weekend as both sides look to kick-start a run of form. Take odds of 39/20 on there being over 3.5 goals in this clash.
Rotherham United v Swindon Town
Home win: 17/10 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 29/20
Betting tip: The Millers have been in good form on home soil of late having only lost once in their last five games at Don Valley. They face a stern test this weekend however, when high flying Swindon visit. Paolo di Canio has only lost six times in his 33 games in charge at Swindon and knows with victory here they can close the gap on the automatic promotion places. I see Swindon dominating this clash and will take odds of 3/1 on them winning at halftime and fulltime.
Shrewsbury Town v Gillingham
Home win: Evens Draw: 21/10 Away win: 13/5
Betting tip: This could be the clash of the weekend in League Two as two of the league’s form sides go head-to-head in a battle for the play-off places. The Shrews boast the only unbeaten home record in the league and will fancy their chances of extending that run when they entertain the Gills. However, Andy Hessenthaler’s side managed to beat league leaders Crawley away from home on Boxing Day so will not be overawed. Back the Gills to come away with a point at 21/10.
