Accrington Stanley v Macclesfield Town
Home: 39/50 Draw: 9/4 Away: 333/100
Betting tip: Both sides have enjoyed an unbeaten festive period and will be looking to start 2012 with victory. Stanley have won their last three games on home soil and are unbeaten in eight league games. The Silkmen have only lost once in their last four but I fancy a home win here. Back the draw/Accrington in the halftime/fulltime market at 15/4 as second half specialists Stanley come out on top in a close encounter.
Barnet v Bristol Rovers
Home: 5/4 Draw: 23/10 Away: 37/20
Betting tip: The Bees come in to this clash having failed to register a goal in their last two outings and are in desperate need of all three points to move themselves away from the relegation zone. The Pirates arrive in horrid form having not won in seven and have conceded 12 goals in their last three games. Odds of there being over 3.5 goals in this clash are at 9/5.
Burton Albion v Hereford United
Home: 7/10 Draw: 5/2 Away: 17/5
Betting tip: The Brewers have only lost once in their last seven League Two games and will be confident of picking up a victory here against a Hereford side who haven’t won in eight games. You have to fear for Jamie Pitman’s side as they travel to Burton knowing their hosts have only lost once all season in front of their own fans. Consider backing Burton to win despite a one-goal handicap at 19/10.
Crewe Alexandra v Morecambe
Home: 6/5 Draw: 11/5 Away: 2/1
Betting tip: The Alexandra Stadium hosts a mid-table clash as both sides look to find some form in the second half of the season to try and force their way into the promotion picture. Crewe will be high on confidence following their thumping 5-2 victory at Bristol Rovers on Saturday. The Shrimps haven’t won in seven and need to stop their slide down the League Two ladder before they get dragged into the relegation battle. I fancy a goal fest here and odds of there being over 3.5 goals are at 39/20.
Gillingham v Aldershot Town
Home: 39/50 Draw: 12/5 Away: 31/10
Betting tip: The Gills return to the Priestfield Stadium having been on the road over the festive period and will be hoping to give their fans the perfect start to the new year with victory over Aldershot. The Shots have only won once in their last six games and fans will be anxiously looking over their shoulders as they continue to slide down the table. Aldershot have only scored once in their last five and odds on them failing to score here are at 31/20.
Oxford United v Crawley Town
Home: 9/5 Draw: 9/4 Away: 13/10
Betting tip: Crawley start the new year sitting top of League Two and fans will be hoping for that to continue as we enter the second half of the campaign. The Bulls will offer a tough test for Crawley as they are unbeaten in four league games and find themselves in the hunt for a play-off place. I see this being a close game and will back the score draw by taking odds of the lead-draw at 29/10 in the run of play market.
Plymouth Argyle v Torquay United
Home: 19/10 Draw: 11/5 Away: 5/4
Betting tip: The Pilgrims stretched their unbeaten run to five league games with a goalless draw at Aldershot in their last outing but still find themselves languishing at the foot of the table. The Gulls arrive in fine form having only lost once in their last nine games and they could end their hosts’ unbeaten run. Both sides failed to score in their last outing so consider taking odds of 11/4 on there being under 1.5 goals in this clash.
Port Vale v Cheltenham Town
Home: 13/10 Draw: 11/5 Away: 9/5
Betting tip: The Valiants return to Vale Park having had mixed fortunes in their two away games over Christmas. Fans of Vale know their side can get into the hunt for the play-off places with a good run but face a tough challenge against an in-form Cheltenham side. The Robins arrive unbeaten in eight games in all competitions and have gone nine games without defeat away from home. I fancy Cheltenham here but predict a close game. Take odds of 6/1 on the draw/Cheltenham in the halftime/fulltime market.
Rotherham United v Bradford City
Home: 17/20 Draw: 23/10 Away: 29/10
Betting tip: The Millers haven’t enjoyed their Christmas having only picked up one point in their last two games and will be looking to start the new year with a victory over an in-form Bradford side. The Bantams recorded their third straight win in League Two on Saturday and are unbeaten in five going into this clash. Rotherham have failed to score in their last two games and Bradford have kept two clean sheets in their last three so consider taking odds of 18/5 on the home side failing to score.
Shrewsbury v Northampton Town
Home: 9/20 Draw: 29/10 Away: 11/2
Betting tip: The Shrews are the only side in the league to have not lost at home all season and you have to expect that run to continue when bottom side Northampton visit New Meadow on Monday. Aidy Boothroyd watched his side concede a late goal for the second successive game to consign them to defeat and will be worried about his side’s fragile confidence. Back Shrewsbury in the handicap market at 13/10 as they will pick up an easy three points here.
Southend United v Dagenham & Redbridge
Home: 1/2 Draw: 14/5 Away: 19/4
Betting tip: The Shrimpers ended a run of three games without a win with a 4-1 win at AFC Wimbledon in their last match and will be confident of another victory here. Daggers arrive currently on a four game unbeaten run in all competitions but know they must improve their away form in the second half of the season. I see there being goals in this, take odds of 39/20 on there being over 3.5 goals in this clash.
Swindon Town v AFC Wimbledon
Home: 11/25 Draw: 3/1 Away: 11/2
Betting tip: The Robins left it late to pick up all three points in their last match and return to the County Ground to face a Dons side who are in freefall. Terry Brown’s side have lost their last six games in all competitions and are in danger of sliding into the relegation battle. I see a comfortable home win here so back Swindon to overcome a one-goal handicap and win at 5/4 to boost the odds.
