It was a decent weekend for the teams at the top of the League Two title market, with Gillingham, Fleetwood Town, Rotherham United, Port Vale, Chesterfield and Cheltenham Town all avoiding defeat, while Bradford City, Rochdale, Exeter City, Southend United and Torquay United all remain the best of the outside bets.
Top-of-the-table Gillingham remain the favourites for the League Two title despite being held to a 0-0 draw by Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium. Martin Allen’s side are now 3/1 to win the division, cut from 7/2 before the weekend, and 3/5 to be promoted.
Fleetwood Town are second favourites at 4/1, in from 9/2, to win a second consecutive championship after a 2-2 draw against Cheltenham at Whaddon Road. The Cod Army are 4/5 to be promoted. That result has left Cheltenham at 16/1 to win the league and 7/1 to go up.
Pre-season favourites Rotherham United are now 5/1 to justify their antepost price after a 0-0 draw against York City at Bootham Crescent. The Millers are still odds-on to be promoted, priced up at 4/5.
Port Vale have been cut once again, from 10/1 to 9/1, after yet another win away from home. A 2-0 victory over Exeter at St James’s Park means Micky Adams’ men are now 2/1 to be promoted. That home loss leaves the Grecians a 25/1 chance to win League Two and 5/1 to get into the third tier.
Johnstone’s Paint Trophy holders Chesterfield grabbed a good win away at Aldershot and the 1-0 victory at the Recreation Ground leaves the Spireites 16/1 to win the division and and 7/2 to go up.
Meanwhile, Bradford are also 16/1 to win League Two and 7/2 to gain promotion after a 4-3 defeat at Dagenham and Redbridge, while Rochdale have been cut to 20/1 after a 3-2 win at Accrington Stanley. That win at the Crown Ground leaves John Coleman’s side a 4/1 chance to be playing League One football next year.
Southend and Torquay are both now 25/1 to win League Two after disappointing results at the weekend. The Shrimpers were held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Barnet at Roots Hall and are 5/1 to be promoted, while the Gulls are 11/2 to go up after losing 2-1 to Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park.
