It was another topsy-turvy weekend in League One and a mixed bag of results for Sheffield United, MK Dons, Swindon Town, Preston North End, Notts County, Doncaster Rovers, Crawley Town, Brentford, Bournemouth, Tranmere Rovers, Yeovil Town and Coventry City have resulted in some movement of the prices in the outright betting.
Sheffield United remain the team to beat in the eyes of the bwin bookmakers, who have cut the Blades to 4/1 favourites following their eventful 5-3 win over Bournemouth at Bramall Lane on Saturday. Danny Wilson’s side, who had been 9/2 since the start of the season, are in the play-off places for the first time this campaign. That result has seen the Cherries pushed out to 20/1 from a pre-match 14/1.
Tranmere currently top the pile with ten points and can be backed at 20/1, the same price Rovers were before their 4-0 thrashing of Colchester at Prenton Park moved them to the summit. Ronnie Moore’s team are joined on ten points by Yeovil, who, like Tranmere, continue to surprise with their excellent start. A 2-1 win over Doncaster at Huish Park has seen the Glovers cut to 25/1 from 33/1 to win League One. The defeat for Dean Saunders’ side means Donny have drifted in the betting slightly to 14/1 from 12/1.
Second favourites MK Dons got back to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Carlisle, which has seen Karl Robinson’s team cut from 6/1 to 11/2 for the title. Going in the opposite direction are Swindon, who suffered their first defeat of the campaign with a 4-1 thumping at Preston North End. The Robins were 5/1 for the title before that heavy loss at Deepdale, but are now out to 6/1. A first win of the season for Preston, however, has seen their price slashed from 16/1 to 12/1.
Notts County are another side shortening in price. Keith Curle’s men are now 10/1 after a 2-0 victory over Bury at Gigg Lane, in from 14/1 before kick-off. The Shakers’ former manager Richie Barker has continued his fine start as Crawley boss and the Red Devils are now 14/1 (from 16s) after a 1-0 victory at home to Leyton Orient.
It is a different story for both Coventry and Brentford. The managerless Sky Blues lost 1-0 to Crewe at Gresty Road and are now 20/1 from 16/1 to win League One, while Brentford’s late comeback in a 2-2 draw against Walsall at the Bescot Stadium was not enough to prevent their price drifting from 16/1 to 18/1.
