After watching sci-fi time-bending flick Looper at the weekend, I have been inspired to select Sheffield United, Exeter City and Gillingham for away wins this evening against Hartlepool, Barnet and Northampton Town respectively.
All three have a history of success against their prospective opponents, while their current form makes them likely to claim more victories in the near future – creating something of a loop for fans and punters alike.
I’m hoping for more luck with these selections following last weekend’s disappointment, otherwise I could be forced to go back in time and make the necessary adjustments myself. Because I could … I just don’t really want to.
The timely trio are well priced at odds of just over 9/1 in a treble – which could return £184 for anyone successfully backing them with their free £20 bet upon registering with bwin – but I won’t be offended if you are only compelled to punt on one or more of them individually.
Now, on to the action.
Sheffield United to beat Hartlepool @ Evens
The Blades have a great recent record against Hartlepool, having won each of their previous three meetings, including victories home and away last season.
Danny Wilson’s team have proven a solid prospect on the road too, having gone unbeaten in four away games so far this term. Last time out away from Bramall Lane, United also impressed with a 1-0 win over an in-form Yeovil Town.
Hartlepool, meanwhile, may already be wishing they could turn back the clock and start the season again, having gone five games without a win in all competitions, conceding a whopping ten goals in their last three outings.
Their home form is particularly poor and with Hartlepool without a win in two at Victoria Park, the Blades could extend that run with an away win at evens.
Exeter City to beat Barnet @ Evens
History is on the side of Exeter, who have won the previous two meetings between the sides in League Two.
The Grecians’ current form is not too shabby either, with three wins from their last four games away from St James’s Park. Goals have flowed during that time, with ten scored across those encounters.
Looking to the future, that run could well continue, with Barnet among the worst teams in the division, having gone 11 competitive games without a win.
Home form has been particularly worrying for the Bees – they have shipped 11 goals in their last five games at Underhill – and Exeter look well placed to cash in with a precious victory on the road.
Gillingham to beat Northampton @ 13/10
While last weekend may have seen Gillingham endure a shock home defeat to Rochdale – who were aided by a first-half red card for the Gills – a quick trip to next May in my time travel machine has provided me with glimpses of Martin Allen celebrating promotion to League One.
Mad Dog’s team have proven particularly strong away from home this term, winning each of their four league games on the road and scoring eight goals in the process.
By contrast, Northampton look set for a bleak season, having won just one of their last four competitive games. They were particularly poor last time out at home, drawing a blank against Chesterfield in a miserable 0-0 draw. Expect the Gills to prevail at 13/10.
