A defeat for leaders Charlton and a clean sheet for Sheffield Wednesday are among the tips for this weekend’s League One programme.
Brentford v Notts County
Home win: 6/5 Draw: 2/1 Away win: 11/5
Key Stat: Brentford are unbeaten in their last six.
Betting Tip: These two sides are both fighting for a play-off spot and this promises to be a closely-fought contest. The Magpies are unbeaten in their last four and this has score draw written all over it. Odds of 31/10 on the lead draw are worth backing.
Bury v Bournemouth
Home win: 7/5 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 7/4
Key Stat: Bournemouth have not won on the road in eight games.
Betting Tip: Bury have won their last two games at home and I fancy them to see off the Cherries here – odds of 7/5 on a home win are worth a punt.
Carlisle United v Charlton Athletic
Home win: 7/4 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 7/5
Key Stat: Carlisle are unbeaten in nine games.
Betting Tip: The Cumbrians have hit form at the perfect time and sit outside the play-offs only on goal difference. Charlton are almost certain to return to the Championship but have only won one of their last three away games and I fancy Carlisle here. This game should be close but I suggest backing the draw/Carlisle win at 23/4 in the half time/full time market.
Colchester United v Sheffield Wednesday
Home win: 13/5 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 19/20
Key Stat: Wednesday have kept four clean sheets in a row.
Betting Tip: It is safe to say Colchester are the draw specialists in League One having drawn seven of their last nine. They are also one of the league’s lowest scorers, so consider taking odds of 8/5 on them failing to score here.
Hartlepool United v Chesterfield
Home win: 91/100 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 27/10
Key Stat: Both sides have averaged under two goals a game in their last ten outings.
Betting Tip: This game could go either way, but don’t expect there to be goals. Consider backing odds of 12/5 on there being under 1.5 goals here.
Preston North End v Huddersfield Town
Home win: 11/5 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 11/10
Key Stat: Preston have not won at home in six.
Betting Tip: Huddersfield can take a huge stride towards a guaranteed play-off place with victory at Deepdale and while they have been in poor form of late I fancy them to win here. I suggest backing Huddersfield to be winning at half time and full time at 12/5.
Rochdale v Exeter City
Home win: 11/10 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 11/5
Key Stat: Both sides have only won once in their last ten.
Betting Tip: Both these sides look set for relegation to League Two and neither can keep a clean sheet so expect goals. Odds of 5/2 on there being over 3.5 goals in this one are well worth consideration.
Scunthorpe United v Milton Keynes Dons
Home win: 7/4 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 27/10
Key Stat: Scunthorpe are unbeaten in ten league matches.
Betting Tip: The Iron have held Charlton, Carlisle and Notts County to draws in recent weeks and I see this one ending level too – take the 11/5 on the draw here.
Sheffield United v Leyton Orient
Home win: 7/20 Draw: 17/5 Away win: 13/2
Key Stat: The Blades have won their last four, Orient have lost their last four.
Betting Tip: This should be an easy home win for in-form Sheffield United. Odds of evens on the Blades winning by at least two goals in the handicap market is worth backing.
Walsall v Tranmere Rovers
Home win: 5/4 Draw: 2/1 Away win: 21/10
Key Stat: Walsall are unbeaten in their last six at home.
Betting Tip: Tranmere have failed to score in their last two away games and could struggle here. I suggest backing Walsall to win by at least two goals in the handicap market at 18/5.
Wycombe Wanderers v Oldham Athletic
Home win: 23/20 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 21/10
Key Stat: Wycombe have drawn their last three games at home.
Betting Tip: Oldham are on a five-game losing streak but given their hosts’ inability to pick up wins at home I see this one ending level – 11/5 on the stalemate is hard to ignore.
Yeovil Town v Stevenage Borough
Home win: 33/20 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 3/2
Key Stat: Stevenage have drawn six of their last seven games.
Betting Tip: Stevenage have struggled to pick up wins in the late stages of the season and so have seen their promotion challenge fade. This should be a close contest and I suggest backing the score draw through a lead-draw sequence at 3/1.
