Chesterfield v Charlton Athletic
Home 29/10 Draw 23/10 Away 17/20
The league’s bottom club and the league’s top club meet at the B2net Stadium this weekend. The Spireites’ defeat last weekend ended a run of four straight wins that had given their fans hope of the great escape. Charlton have only lost twice in their last 18 games in all competitions and I just can’t see anything other than an away win here. Back Chris Powell’s men in the 1-0 handicap market at 23/10 here.
Exeter City v Sheffield Wednesday
Home 5/2 Draw 11/5 Away Evens
The Grecians sit just two points above the relegation zone and with a poorer goal difference than most of the sides around them their fans are beginning to fear the worst. The Owls have picked up seven wins from their last 12 games and look hot favourites to achieve automatic promotion at the end of the campaign. Neither side has been free scoring of late so expect a low key affair here. Odds of 23/10 on there being under 1.5 goals in this clash are well worth a punt.
Hartlepool United v Bournemouth
Home 7/4 Draw 21/10 Away 7/5
Pools’ 4-0 victory last weekend stretched their unbeaten run to four games in League One and Neale Cooper can breathe easy as his new (old) side look set for a mid-table finish. Bournemouth have won six of their last eight games and are picking up some momentum as they look to finish the season in the playoffs. I see this one being a close game but for the Cherries to ultimately come out on top. Consider backing draw/Bournemouth in the halftime/fulltime market at 5/1.
Leyton Orient v Huddersfield Town
Home 11/5 Draw 11/5 Away 11/10
Consistently inconsistent is the best way to describe the Os’ run of late but their fans will be excited at the prospect of seeing their side put another one of the league’s top clubs to the sword this weekend following their recent victory over Charlton. Lee Clark’s men are unbeaten in nine and are looking to avoid the end of season playoffs by achieving automatic promotion to the Championship. I can see this one being a really close clash and will be backing the draw at 11/5.
Sheffield United v Wycombe Wanderers
Home 2/5 Draw 16/5 Away 23/4
The Blades have won their last five league games at home and haven’t lost on at Bramall Lane in eight games and will pose a formidable task for struggling Wycombe. The Chairboys have failed to win any of their last seven away games and will travel north fearing a heavy defeat. I expect Danny Wilson’s side to win this game easily and it’s worth backing the Blades in the 0-1 handicap market at 11/10.
Tranmere Rovers v Preston North End
Home 5/4 Draw 21/10 Away 2/1
Rovers have only picked up three points from a possible 21 in the league as they continue to slide down the ladder and sit dangerously close to the relegation zone. PNE have only won one of their last seven games and the early season promotion favourites look set for at least another year in League One. With both teams in such poor form a draw which would suit neither would be no surprise at all.
Yeovil Town v Scunthorpe United
Home 7/5 Draw 11/5 Away 17/10
It’s a real six-pointer at Huish Park this weekend as both sides are desperate for a crucial win. Yeovil have picked up nine points from a possible 15 on home soil of late and it has been that form that has seen them claw their way out of the relegation zone. The Iron are in awful form having only won once in their last 11 league matches and I can’t see any way they will leave Yeovil with anything other than defeat. Take 7/5 on Gary Johnson’s men ending Saturday five points clear of their opponents.
