Wycombe Wanderers v Huddersfield
Home: 11/4 Draw: 12/5 Away: 17/20
Betting tip: The Chairboys have lost their last two and sit just four points above the bottom of League One. Their bid to move away from the relegation places does not get any easier as they entertain promotion-chasing Huddersfield. The Terriers were pegged back late in their last game to stretch their run of away games without victory to four. Nevertheless, I see a comfortable win for Lee Clark’s men here, so take them to be winning at halftime and fulltime at 37/20.
Saturday, January 7th
Carlisle United v Leyton Orient
Home: 19/20 Draw: 9/4 Away: 13/5
Betting tip: Both sides come into this clash having picked up good victories against in-form sides in their last outings. The Cumbrians are unbeaten in six league games and find themselves firmly in the hunt for play-off places. The Os arrive high in confidence having beaten Charlton and Stevenage 1-0 in their last two games. Russell Slade’s side have kept clean sheets in their last two games but I see goals here as Carlisle have scored three goals in two of their last three league matches. Take odds of 11/5 on there being over 3.5 goals in this clash.
Chesterfield v Exeter City
Home: 6/5 Draw: 11/5 Away: 2/1
Betting tip: The Spireites are starting to get cut off at the foot of the table as their winless run stretched to 15 league games following a 1-1 draw with Oldham on Monday. The Grecians arrive at the B2Net Stadium struggling for form themselves as they haven’t won in the league in five games. This promises to be a real nervy tussle and I fancy this one to end in stalemate. Take the draw at 11/5 as Chesterfield’s search for victory continues.
Hartlepool United v Rochdale
Home: 11/10 Draw: 11/5 Away: 11/5
Betting tip: Neale Cooper lost his second game in succession in charge of Pools and knows this weekend’s clash with Rochdale is a must win game if his side are to avoid being sucked into a relegation battle. Dale arrive knowing they will be within six points of their hosts if they can come away from Victoria Park with three points and fans will believe their escape mission could be on. Neither side has been firing in front of goal with Pools having only scored four goals in their last five games and Rochdale only managing to register on the scoresheet twice in their last five matches. Consider odds of 23/10 on there being under 1.5 goals here.
Tranmere Rovers v Brentford
Home: 29/20 Draw: 11/5 Away: 33/20
Betting tip: Tranmere gave a good account of themselves in their last game at high flying Sheffield Wednesday and can take confidence from that performance going into this clash. Rovers have been strong at home, only losing three games in front of their own fans. The Bees arrive without a win in four but have enjoyed their away days so far this season having only lost twice. Brentford have come from behind to claim a draw in three of their last four games and odds of the lead-draw in the run of play market at 31/10 are well worth a punt.
Walsall v Bournemouth
Home: 33/20 Draw: 11/5 Away: 29/20
Betting tip: The Saddlers are unbeaten in their last five home games but will be in for a stern test this weekend when in-form Bournemouth visit the Bescot Stadium. The Cherries have only lost once in their last ten League One matches and enjoyed an unbeaten festive period. Walsall won the meeting earlier in the season 2-0 and I fancy Bournemouth to get revenge this time around and suggest backing draw/Bournemouth in the halftime/fulltime market at 21/4 as these two play out a close-fought contest.
