Bournemouth v Wycombe Wanderers
Home: 83/100 Draw: 9/4 Away: 31/10
Betting tip: The Cherries continued their impressive away form on Saturday with a 3-1 win at Yeovil and fans will be hoping for a repeat performance against struggling Wycombe. The Chairboys lost in their last outing to slip further down the League One ladder and could be in for a tough time here. Take Bournemouth to come out on top and back the draw/Bournemouth in the halftime/fulltime market at 15/4 as the Cherries are slow starters at home.
Bury v Walsall
Home: 17/20 Draw: 23/10 Away: 57/20
Betting tip: The Shakers return to Gigg Lane after successive away games looking to bounce back from defeat in their last fixture. The Saddlers arrive in good form having stretched their unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions. However, of those eight games six have been draws. With that in mind I will be backing a close encounter, ending in stalemate here. Take the draw at 23/10.
Carlisle United v Sheffield United
Home: 33/20 Draw: 11/5 Away: 29/20
Betting tip: The Blades won their eighth successive game on Saturday and will arrive at Brunton Park full of confidence. Carlisle recorded their third draw on the bounce to stretch their unbeaten run to five games in League One. Carlisle have taken the lead in their last three, but failed to win any. Odds on the lead-draw are at 29/10, which is well worth a bet.
Charlton Athletic v Brentford
Home: 13/20 Draw: 47/20 Away: 4/1
Betting tip: The Bees have only lost once away from home all season but you have to expect that run to come to an end when they visit high-flying Charlton. Chris Powell’s side will be looking to bounce back from defeat in their last outing and you have to fear Brentford may face a backlash here. Both sides come into this with goals in them so expect a goal fest at The Valley. Odds of there being over 3.5 goals are at 11/5.
Chesterfield v Oldham Athletic
Home: 29/20 Draw: 11/5 Away: 33/20
Betting tip: The Latics picked up their first league win in four on Saturday and will be looking to record another victory when they visit basement boys Chesterfield on Monday. The Spireites were pegged back in the dying moments of their six pointer against Scunthorpe and haven’t won in eight games in all competitions. Back them to get their noses in front again but ultimately fall short. The lead-lose is at 6/1 in the run of play market.
Exeter City v Yeovil Town
Home: 11/10 Draw: 11/5 Away: 11/5
Betting tip: Both sides come into this crucial clash having lost their last two games and you can expect a nervy clash at St James’ Park on Monday. These two sides’ form has virtually mirrored each other’s and I think this clash will be very close. Take the draw at 11/5 as both sides start the new year with a point.
Hartlepool United v Scunthorpe United
Home: 23/20 Draw: 11/5 Away: 21/10
Betting tip: Pools’ slide down the League One ladder continued on Saturday with a 3-1 defeat at Brammall Lane but fans will be hoping for a victory when relegation contenders Scunthorpe visit Victoria Park. The Iron haven’t won in seven and you have to fear for them come May. I am going to say Neale Cooper will pick up his first win as Pools boss and they will do it in style. Take Hartlepool to be winning at halftime/fulltime at 5/2.
Milton Keynes Dons v Colchester United
Home: 11/20 Draw: 5/2 Away: 19/4
Betting tip: The Dons conceded two late goals to be denied a second successive victory over the festive period but will be confident of a win against a side who have struggled on their travels. Colchester have been in inconsistent form all season long but come into this clash off the back of a 2-0 victory over Exeter in their last outing. Three of the Us’ last five games have finished 1-0 while the Dons’ last home game also finished with the same scoreline. Take Karl Robinson’s side to win 1-0 at 13/2
Notts County v Huddersfield
Home: 7/4 Draw: 11/5 Away: 27/20
Betting tip: The Magpies lost their fourth game in a row on Saturday and will be in for another tough test when promotion contenders Huddersfield visit Meadow Lane. The Terriers were held to a 1-1 draw in their last outing and have found wins hard to come by of late having only won once in their last five matches. I fancy a draw here and suggest backing the lead-draw at 29/10.
Rochdale v Preston North End
Home: 8/5 Draw: 9/4 Away: 29/20
Betting tip: Dale recorded their second successive 0-0 at the weekend and host a PNE side who also failed to find the net in their last match. This could be a scrappy encounter as both sides are searching for some form. Preston have certainly improved since David Unsworth has taken the reins at Deepdale and I am going to say that his unbeaten run will continue. The 0-0 is at 23/2 and given these two sides fired blanks in their last outings that’s well worth a punt.
Sheffield Wednesday v Tranmere Rovers
Home: 11/20 Draw: 5/2 Away: 19/4
Betting tip: The Owls still haven’t tasted defeat on home soil and you have to fear for Rovers as they visit Hillsborough without an away win in four attempts. There were eight goals in the last game at Hillsborough and there could well be a flurry of goals here. Consider backing Wednesday to overcome a one-goal handicap at 31/20.
Stevenage v Leyton Orient
Home: 7/10 Draw: 23/10 Away: 15/4
Betting tip: Stevenage stretched their unbeaten run to 13 games in all competitions with a 1-0 victory over Wycombe on Saturday. The Os have only lost once in their last four League One matches but will have to battle to avoid defeat here. Stevenage have scored seven goals in their last two games while Orient have only scored once and I can see a comfortable home win here. Back Graham Westley’s side to be winning at halftime/fulltime at 33/20.
