It may be getting chilly out, but with Tranmere Rovers, Sheffield United and Southend United all in good form, there could be three home wins to warm the cockles of many a punter this Tuesday, assuming they can see off Doncaster Rovers, Walsall and Aldershot Town respectively.
And let’s hope that all three do the business, because Saturday evening was a difficult time in the Beresford household.
While Gillingham and Port Vale enjoyed comprehensive victories in their respective home encounters with Burton Albion and Wycombe Wanderers, Swindon Town once again let me down with a draw against Scunthorpe, which put paid to any plans for leaving the house that evening.
With little else to do but wallow in the failure of Paolo Di Canio to motivate his troops with frantic gesturing and the occasional strop, I decided to head back to the drawing board and plot my moves for this Tuesday’s games.
And after receiving the dreaded “vote of confidence” from the boys upstairs at news.bwin.com/en/, I am eager to re-earn my stripes with a top treble of Home Heroes.
Offering odds of just under 5/1, this trio could bring in returns of £97.19 for anyone backing them with bwin’s free £20 bet after registering.
With that in mind, let’s get things started.
Tranmere Rovers to beat Doncaster Rovers @ 9/10
Tranmere continue to lead the standings in League One this season, helped in no small part by their fine form at home.
Despite their 3-1 reverse at Bournemouth on Saturday, the Lilywhites are thus far unbeaten at Prenton Park, having claimed five wins and one draw from their last six games on Merseyside.
Ronnie Moore’s men have been particularly prolific at home too, with 16 goals registered over the course of their last six games.
With Doncaster heading into this match with just one away win from their last four on the road, boss Dean Saunders could well taste another defeat here.
Sheffield United to beat Walsall @ 11/20
While the likes of Swindon and Port Vale have let me down in recent weeks, Sheffield United have been as dependable as ever.
The Blades are one of the few unbeaten teams in English football at the moment, with Danny Wilson’s men heading into a home game with Walsall on the back of four wins and one draw from their last five.
With a point between them and Port Vale in second, another win could be on the cards at Bramall Lane, with Sheffield United claiming victories in each of their last three home meetings with Walsall.
The visitors are on an abysmal run of form, having lost four and drawn one of their last five. And with the Saddlers shipping two goals in four of their last five games, Sheffield United look good for a win at 11/20.
Southend to beat Aldershot at 13/20
While Dean Saunders may not be having the best of times at Donny, elsewhere, another Premier League striker of yesteryear is having an even worse time.
It seems crazy to think that Dean Holdsworth turned down the chance to manage Crawley Town earlier this season, opting to instead remain with his beloved Aldershot.
How he must regret that decision now, with the Shots sinking fast in League Two and on a run of seven straight defeats.
Aldershot’s biggest problems stem from their defence, with Holdsworth’s team conceding an incredible 14 goals in their last five matches.
Meanwhile, Southend are beginning to rediscover the kind of form that saw them earmarked as potential promotion chasers.
Having lost just one of their last seven at Roots Hall, scoring two or more in five of their last six at home, the Shrimpers look good for another win which will hopefully round off our latest Home Heroes effort.
