Stevenage, Tranmere Rovers, Exeter City to score wins over Bury, Brentford and Bristol Rovers respectively are my three big ‘Home Heroes’ tips in League One and League Two this weekend as I look to rebuild my punting reputation.
Last weekend was a stressful one in the Beresford household as I watched Northampton draw a blank against Chesterfield, while Rochdale endured a topsy-turvy afternoon in their 2-2 draw with Dagenham & Redbridge.
Needless to say, after backing both sides to claim wins at home alongside Notts County, who cruised to a 3-0 win over Portsmouth, I was far from happy and promptly headed to my stats shed (I couldn’t afford Andy Townsend’s tactics truck) to begin preparing for this weekend.
After factoring in a large amount of goals data and match statistics, along with the occasional picture of John Aldridge in his mullet-sporting days, I think I have finally cracked it.
And by cracked it, I of course mean I have been able to come up with three surefire tips for home wins in League One and League Two this weekend at odds of just over 5/1.

Tranmere Rovers to beat Brentford @ 11/10
Tranmere are the team to beat in League One at the moment, with an impressive 5-2 win away at Crawley Town last week showcasing the Superwhites’ promotion credentials.
Ronnie Moore’s men are on a run of three successive victories and will be confident of another triumph at home, having won each of their four fixtures at Prenton Park this campaign, scoring 12 goals in the process.
By contrast, Brentford’s away form has been dismal, with the Bees yet to win on the road this season in either the league or the Capital One Cup.
Uwe Rosler won’t expect much from this one either after seeing his team fail to beat Tranmere in their two attempts in League One last season, losing at home to the Wirral club last time out.
Expect Tranmere to continue their march to the Championship with a win at a decent 11/10.
Stevenage to beat Bury @ 11/20
Stevenage may have let me down with a 1-1 draw away at Doncaster last weekend, but I am in a forgiving mood and still believe Gary Smith’s team are one to watch this season.
A home match against Bury could be the perfect way to make it up to me, with their northern visitors heading to Broadhall Way on the back of some woeful form, having failed to claim a win in any competition so far this term.
New manager Kevin Blackwell certainly has a job on his hands, with four of the Shakers’ previous five games resulting in defeat, with their last two results ending in a 3-0 loss to Tranmere and a 4-1 home reverse against MK Dons.
Stevenage could be in the goals too, with Bury conceding a whopping eight in their four matches on the road this term. By contrast, the Boro are riding high up in third and are unbeaten so far in League One.
Their fans will remember last season’s two encounters with the Shakers fondly, as Smith’s side picked up a pair of easy wins and I expect them to…er… bury Bury (sorry, I couldn’t help it) at odds of 11/20.
Exeter City to beat Bristol Rovers @ 9/10
Exeter were another one that disappointed me last weekend after suffering a rare defeat on the road.
Nevertheless, I am willing to turn a blind eye to that shocker this time out, particularly with Paul Tisdale’s side set to play Bristol Rovers – a team staring down the barrel of Conference football.
Yet to record a win in League Two so far this season, the Bristolians will no doubt be dreading a trip to Exeter, given the Grecians’ recent record of having won three of the last four matches against Rovers.
Exeter are on a decent run at St James’s Park too, having won two and drawn one of their previous three fixtures on their own patch, scoring three goals on two separate occasions.
With an optimistic eye on League One promotion, a win over Bristol Rovers is essential punting at 9/10 and completes the latest Home Heroes treble.
