There are few more curious things in world football than Getafe’s strength at home. This tiny club from the outskirts of the Spanish capital has no real right to even be in the top flight, let alone produce giant-killing results against Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Their unimposing stadium is rarely even half full, with Getafe given the dubious honour of having the lowest average attendance last year (around 8,200). And yet somehow, Geta seem to be able to pull off big results, last season defeating Barcelona 1-0 at home, while their last home match saw them come from behind to beat Real Madrid 2-1.
Barca, then, realise that they will be in for an uncomfortable evening and the Catalans are traditionally sluggish after the international break. Andres Iniesta and Alexis Sanchez are both missing through injury and they are two players whose incisive running could have caused problems for Getafe’s defence.
Though this is a match that the Catalans would expect to win, it is more likely to be a hard-fought, low-scoring affair rather than a thrashing.
To that end, backing under 2.5 goals might appeal at 7/5, with this bet paying out in two of the last three matches, but a safer option is to go for under 1.5 goals in the first half, which is offered at 13/20.
This bet has paid out in nine of the last 11 meetings between the two sides, with the price big enough to consider some serious investment.
Saturday’s Bet of the Day: Under 1.5 goals in first half of Getafe v Barca @ 13/20
