Spanish champions Barcelona replaced Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga after a 4-0 win at Rayo Vallecano, but the visit of Champions League qualifiers Real Sociedad promises to be a much tougher obstacle for Gerardo Martino’s side to overcome.
The Basque country side’s goals against tally of three is the lowest amount of strikes conceded in the Spanish top flight so far this season – one less than Martino’s men – and they can hold the Catalan giants at bay for long enough to claim a plus two handicap win at odds of 2/1.
Barca are super skinny at 3/25 to make it six wins out of six in the league, with Jagoba Arrasate’s team at 29/2 to become the first visitors to win at Camp Nou since Bayern Munich in the Champions League semi-final and the draw 8/1.
La Real may not yet be hitting the heady heights they reached when securing fourth-place at the end of the last campaign, but their only La Liga loss this season – the 2-1 home reverse against Diego Simeone’s Atletico – was the first time they have failed to pick up at least a point in the league since going down 2-1 at Getafe in May.
They have avoided defeat in each of their two away games and have kept clean sheets in five out of eight matches so far this term in all competitions.
The White-Blues face a Barcelona side that have caught fire in recent matches, with successive 4-0 wins against Ajax in the Champions League and at Rayo last time out in La Liga.
However, despite their run of victories Los Blaugrana’s form has been somewhat patchy as three of their five league triumphs have only been secured by a one goal margin and their last home league game against Sevilla looked set for a draw before Alexis Sanchez’s very late winner.
Barca’s 1-0 win at Malaga was sandwiched in between 1-1 and 0-0 draws with Simeone’s side in the Spanish Super Cup as Martino struggled to build on his team’s opening day performance in the 7-0 win over Levante.
With Real Sociedad sure to be well organised defensively, a hammering at the hands of the champions does not look on the cards here and at decent odds they are the pick in the plus two handicap to succeed.
