Real Madrid begin the defence of their La Liga crown with what looks on paper to be one of the toughest home fixtures of the season.
Valencia visit the Santiago Bernabeu knowing they are highly unlikely to better their third placed finish from the previous campaign, but having reinforced well this summer with the arrivals of Nelson Valdez and Didac Vila (amongst
others), they are well equipped to cause Madrid some problems.
The corresponding fixture last season finished 0-0 back in April, although the recent history between these two sides makes for heartening reading for Madrid fans with Los Blancos winning five and drawing one of their last six meetings with Los Che.
Madrid are understandably odds on favourites to win and are available at 11/50, while Valencia can be backed at 10/1 and the draw is offered at 21/4.
Though Valencia should provide tough opposition, this fixture has a history of being an extremely high scoring one, with 14 goals being netted in the last three encounters.
But instead of delving into the 3way market, a more profitable bet could be to back over 1.5 goals in the first half, which is priced at 19/20.
This was the bet of choice for many serious Spanish football punters last season and paid particular dividends in Madrid home matches, where it came off on 15 out of 19 occasions in the league. Though Valencia should provide tough opposition, this fixture has a history of being an extremely high scoring one, with 14 goals being netted in the last three encounters.
Madrid have been in blistering form in pre-season, scoring five goals in four of their warm up matches, and last season broke La Liga record for number of goals scored.
This is not the last time that this bet will be advised with Madrid during the course of the season, but as the old saying goes, start as you mean to go on.
