Racing Santander v Villarreal
Home win: 9/5 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 3/2
Betting Tip: Santander’s terrible start to the season has scarcely improved and they now face a real fight to preserve their stay in La Liga. A defeat to struggling Mallorca last weekend cut them adrift at the bottom having won just once all season. They have, however, drawn three of their six at home and with Villarreal in no condition to capitalise on Racing’s woes and with a Champions League game coming up midweek, settle for the draw at 11/5.
Sporting Gijon v Real Madrid
Home win: 19/2 Draw: 9/2 Away win: 13/50
Betting Tip: Gijon’s five without defeat was abruptly ended last week by Levante and it’ll be a miracle if they don’t make that two losses in a row against the mighty Real Madrid. Mourinho’s men are unstoppable at the moment: their demolition of neighbours Atletico last Saturday made it thirteen consecutive wins in which they’ve racked up over half a century of goals. Get on a Real multiple of 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 at 29/10.
Barcelona v Levante
Home win: 1/20 Draw: 21/2 Away win: 33/1
Betting Tip: The champions’ surprise slip up at Getafe last weekend allowed Real to open up a six point gap ahead of next weekend’s El Clasico, and Barca can ill-afford to drop any more points with los Blancos in such devastating form. Barca’s issues have come away from home but at the Camp Nou it’s been plane sailing with seven wins from eight and 34 goals scored without reply. Levante arrested three successive defeats with a resounding win over Gijon last week but they’ll get nothing here. A Barca multiple of 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 is best value at 7/5.
Valencia v Espanyol
Home win: 12/25 Draw: 31/10 Away win: 11/2
Betting Tip: To the naked eye this looks pretty cut and dry with Valencia winning six of their last seven and Espanyol picking up just two points from twelve, but this week los Che’s priorities lie elsewhere with a trip to Chelsea coming up on Tuesday. The Espanyol of a few weeks back could have sniffed out a result but they’re shot, so even with minds wandering to Stamford Bridge, back Valencia to edge it. A multiple of 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 is 31/20.
Sunday, 4th December
Atletico Madrid v Rayo Vallecano
Home win: 53/100 Draw: 3/1 Away win: 5/1
Betting Tip: These two lie in tenth and eleventh respectively with virtually identical records but that only serves as a slight to the under achievements of Atletico. They continue to flatter to deceive and after stringing some impressive wins together they folded like a house of cards in the Madrid derby last weekend. However, at the Vicente Calderon they are strong – winning four and drawing three of their home games – and that should be enough to get the better of a Vallecano side who are jack average. Atletico with under 3.5 goals is a safe shout at 7/5.
Real Sociedad v Malaga
Home win: 39/20 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 27/20
Betting Tip: Sociedad won for the first time in eight last weekend but that was only over a Betis side who have fallen to pieces. Otherwise, Sociedad are only out of the drop zone on head-to-head and there are still many problems afoot. Malaga are getting it together and have now won four of their last five yet their away form is still patchy, winning just one from five on the road. Nevertheless, they should have enough about them to claim this one and virtually treble your money by having them to be leading at half-time and full-time at 11/4.
Osasuna v Real Betis
Home win: 21/20 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 51/20
Betting Tip: Betis have absolutely gone. After winning their first four it’s just one draw in nine and they’ve only scored three over that period. Osasuna are unbeaten in eleven at home stretching back to the end of last season and they’ll have enough on their own patch to add to Betis’s woes. Osasuna generally don’t score many and neither do Betis so get all over Osasuna with under 3.5 goals at 8/5.
Mallorca v Athletic Bilbao
Home win: 9/5 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 3/2
Betting Tip: Things were going swimmingly for Bilbao before a shock loss at home to Granada last weekend. They’d been rolling before that and will be looking to quickly get back on their bike against Mallorca. The Islanders are pretty hit or miss although they are obdurate on their home patch where they’ve only lost one of the last five. All things being equal, get on the draw at 11/5.
Granada v Real Zaragoza
Home win: 21/20 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 13/5
Betting Tip: Granada are gradually acclimatising to the rigours of La Liga after a tricky start and they’ve got some wind in their sails after winning two and drawing one of their last three. They were also leading Mallorca before the game was abandoned. It’s the opposite for Zaragoza who have tailed off after a decent start. There have only been five goals in six games at los Carmenes this season so back Granada to nick it with under 2.5 goals at 3/1.
Monday, 5h December
Sevilla v Getafe
Home win: 3/5 Draw: 11/4 Away win: 9/2
Betting Tip: Sevilla won for the first time in five last weekend having edged out Zaragoza 1-0 – but everybody is beating Zaragoza these days so that gets us no closer to deciding just where Sevilla stand. Their usually strong form at the Sanchez Pizjuan has crumbled this term and they’ve been beaten there in the last two against Bilbao and Granada. Getafe shocked the league last weekend by beating Barcelona to add to the scalp of Atletico Madrid but on the road they’ve been useless, losing all bar one – a draw – of their six away ties. Sevilla can get back to winning ways here so have them at half-time and full-time at 7/5.
