Rayo Vallecano v Valencia – 5.00pm
Home win: 13/5 Draw: 12/5 Away win: Evens
Betting Tip: Valencia are moving through the gears nicely and confidence will have been boosted further by the midweek hiding of Genk. Los Che have won five of their last six and were short-changed in last week’s 3-2 defeat by leaders Real Madrid. Vallecano are on a good trot themselves having lost only one of their last five and they’ve kept four clean sheets on that run too, but Unai Emery’s team should have enough so back them with under 3.5 goals in the game at 31/20.
Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid – 7.00pm
Home win: 9/50 Draw: 23/4 Away win: 25/2
Betting Tip: Real Madrid are the form side on the continent at the moment having scored 47 goals in winning twelve on the bounce. Few sides seem capable of stopping them, and those few sides don’t include neighbours Atletico. Los Rojiblancos have blown hot and cold so far this season but are finally stringing some results together having won four of their last five, scoring 16 times. Atletico routinely get thumped by Barcelona and their form against Real isn’t too clever either. Los Meringues have won the last six Madrid derbies including the previous three at the Bernabeu so it’s theirs for the taking. A Real win with a multiple correct score of 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 is tastily priced at 11/4.
Getafe v Barcelona – 9.00pm
Home win: 27/2 Draw: 11/2 Away win: 9/50
Betting Tip: When they hit full flow Barcelona are simply unstoppable. They gave AC Milan the runaround midweek and there’s little chance Getafe will be able to match them on Saturday evening. Having said that, Barca’s away form has been patchy with three 2-2 away draws in La Liga so far, and even at the San Siro they showed defensive frailties in conceding another two. Getafe aren’t up to much even though they’re unbeaten in four at home. Lionel Messi to score two or more at 17/10 is well worth a look.
Sunday, 27th November
Real Betis v Real Sociedad – 11.00am
Home win: 19/20 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 14/5
Betting Tip: It’s hard to believe that Betis briefly led the table after the first few weeks of the season because since then they’ve lost seven and drawn one of their last eight games and have only scored one in over 700 minutes of football. Sociedad are marginally better having lost six, drawn two and scored four over the same period and it’s difficult to choose a winner with both playing so badly. I wouldn’t pay an entrance fee to see either of these so sit on the fence and back a draw at 12/5.
Levante v Sporting Gijon – 3.00pm
Home win: 22/25 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 333/100
Betting Tip: Levante lost for the third time on the spin last weekend but there were signs they were regaining some of their early season form in the 3-2 loss at Atletico. Gijon are unbeaten in five after just one draw from their opening seven and they generally find the back of the net. Go with form and back Gijon with over 2.5 goals at 29/4.
Mallorca v Racing Santander – 5.00pm
Home win: 4/5 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 15/4
Betting Tip: Mallorca are slipping fast: the Islanders haven’t won in seven and only once in eleven and found themselves 2-1 down to bottom side Granada last week before the game was abandoned. Racing have only won one game all season but they’re the division’s draw specialists and even with Mallorca fading, their strong home form should see the spoils shared at a healthy 23/10.
Espanyol v Osasuna – 5.00pm
Home win: 39/50 Draw: 5/2 Away win: 7/2
Betting Tip: Watching Espanyol is like watching bread rise. Their last six games have featured only six goals yet they remain on the periphery of the European places thanks to a habit of nicking tight games. Osasuna are hardly the purists’ pick and bar shelling 15 in two games against Barca and Real, they’ve only conceded nine all term. Espanyol should have enough to edge it again but it won’t be a game you tell your grandkids about. Espanyol with under 2.5 goals is 5/2.
Athletic Club v Granada – 6.45pm
Home win: 9/20 Draw: 31/10 Away win: 25/4
Betting Tip: Bilbao really are an anomaly in La Liga where money counts for so much. The club still stick to the principle of only picking Basque players yet they continually over achieve. Again this term they sit in the European slots and are unbeaten in eleven and should have beaten Barca at the San Mames a few weeks back if it wasn’t for Leo Messi’s equaliser at the death. Plucky Granada don’t seem to be doing that much wrong – and there are plenty of worse sides around at the moment – yet they still find themselves bottom of the pile. They’ve only lost four out of their last nine and were well placed for a win against Mallorca last weekend before the game was abandoned but they will struggle to get much in Bilbao. Jump on the home side with under 2.5 goals at 12/5.
Real Zaragoza v Sevilla – 8.30
Home win: 37/20 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 29/20
Betting Tip: After a decent enough start Zaragoza have tailed away, losing four of their last five. That bad trot is slightly impaired by visits to Atletico and Barcelona and hosting Valencia so they will be looking to get back on track when out of sorts Sevilla travel to La Romareda. Sevilla began the campaign impressively but like so many other teams began to fade with the last of the summer sun. They’re five without a win, have been beaten by Granada and Bilbao and could only manage draws with struggling Mallorca and Santander. Sevilla have drawn all five of their away trips so far, so jump on another at 11/5.
Monday, 28th November
Malaga v Villarreal – 8.00pm
Home win: 67/100 Draw: 13/5 Away win: 17/4
Betting Tip: After a shocking start to the season, Villarreal are unbeaten in three in the league but those results have been punctuated by spankings by Manchester City and Bayern Munich in the Champions League. Malaga are inching somewhere towards cohesion after a summer overhaul and have won three of their last four fixtures including an impressive 3-1 at Santander last time. Los Boquerones have won four from five at home, so boost your bet of a Malaga win with over 2.5 goals at 7/4.
