Villarreal v Real Betis
Home win: 19/20 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 29/10
Betting Tip: It’s been a horrible opening quarter of the season for both these sides with results hard to come by. Villarreal have won just twice all season but have picked up four points from six and should have enough to get past a Betis side falling apart at the seams. Before the international break Betis arrested an alarming slump of six consecutive defeats with a draw against Malaga, but another blank there means they’ve scored just once in seven games. Put your mortgage on a Villarreal win with under 3.5 goals in it at 31/20.
Barcelona v Real Zaragoza
Home win: 1/20 Draw: 21/2 Away win: 30/1
Betting Tip: With a trip to the Bernabeu to come in under a month, Barcelona can ill-afford to lose more ground on Real Madrid. A last minute Lionel Messi equaliser saved their blushes against Bilbao last time out but at home it’s been a different story. Five wins from six with 26 scored and none conceded means Zaragoza don’t have a chance, so the best business for a Barca win is 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 at 3/2.
Valencia v Real Madrid
Home win: 4/1 Draw: 29/10 Away win: 31/50
Betting Tip: Undoubtedly the biggest game of the weekend and a crucial test of Real’s title credentials. Valencia are themselves just a point behind Barcelona and will still consider themselves in the mix after losing just once in the league all season. Madrid have been in scintillating form recently, winning their last ten straight while smashing home 38 goals and that firepower will prove too much for the hosts. Real scored six here last season and although they won’t hit that, a win with over 3.5 goals at 12/5 is best value.
Sunday, 20th November
Real Sociedad v Espanyol
Home win: 6/5 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 9/4
Betting Tip: Sociedad find themselves rooted to the foot of the table after picking up just a single draw in their last seven games. A 4-0 hammering at Rayo Vallecano in their last game showed the extent of their failings. Espanyol are busy haranguing the European places and ten points from 15 means they’re worthy of seventh spot. Espanyol don’t score many so jump on them with under 3.5 goals at 14/5.
Sporting Gijon v Getafe
Home win: 11/10 Draw:23/10 Away win: 12/5
Betting Tip: Sporting are unbeaten in four after losing seven of their previous eight but they still remain just one place outside of the drop zone. Getafe started the season horribly but have only lost one of their last five. However, their away form is dubious having lost all bar one of their five games. With both sides finding their feet, expect them to cancel each other out and the draw at 23/10 is best price and also the most likely outcome.
Osasuna v Rayo Vallecano
Home win: 91/100 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 31/10
Betting Tip: The international break could not have come at a worse time for these two. Osasuna have had to stew over a 7-1 drubbing at Real Madrid while Rayo have won three of their last four, whipping Sociedad 4-0 last time out. Osasuna’s strong home form could play a part in this, as they’ve won three and drawn two from five at the Reyno de Navarra and that could be too much for Vallecano who have impressed since coming up last year. Back Osasuna with under 2.5 goals at 3/1.
Sevilla v Athletic Bilbao
Home win: 19/20 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 14/5
Betting Tip: Sevilla have gone four without winning and have only claimed maximums twice from their last eight games. Bilbao are as obdurate as ever and unbeaten in ten, with only an injury time Lionel Messi goal depriving the Basque men of a deserved humbling of the champions last time out. Marcelo Bielsa has Bilbao playing well and 14/5 for the away win is too tempting to ignore
Atletico Madrid v Levante
Home win: 3/5 Draw: 27/10 Away win: 19/4
Betting Tip: Levante have lost their last two following that astonishing run of seven wins on the bounce and they will want to quickly return to winning ways. They might have to wait until next week though as Atletico are unbeaten at home all season and have won their last two while scoring seven at the Vicente Calderon. If any side can screw up your accumulator it’s Atletico but have faith and boost your money by having them to be leading at half-time and full-time at 27/20.
Granada v Mallorca
Home win: 23/20 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 12/5
Betting Tip: It’s onwards and upwards for Granada, who supplemented an away win at Sevilla with a home draw to Santander in their last game. They’re still mired in the drop zone but they will have a decent chance to add to their points tally when they face a Mallorca side gradually slipping towards them. The islanders haven’t won in six and have won just once in ten and although Granada don’t win many, they don’t concede much either, so more than double your money with the draw at 11/5.
Monday, 21st November
Racing Santander v Malaga
Home win: 2/1 Draw: 11/5 Away win: 27/20
Betting Tip: Malaga still remain a bit of a curious proposition due to their quality and inconsistency. They’ve only won one of their last five yet still sit in sixth place having won five of their eleven league games this season. Santander are struggling and although they’re unbeaten in two they only boast one narrow home win against Betis all season. Malaga have only won one and scored two away all season so back them with under 3.5 goals at 19/10.
