Saturday, March 3rd
Mallorca v Osasuna (5.00pm)
Home win: 87/100 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 333/100
Key stat: Mallorca have won five of their last six games at home against Osasuna.
Betting tip: Osasuna have one of the worst away records in La Liga while Mallorca have won three of their last five on the island. Coupled with Osasuna’s awful record at the Iberostar Stadium, this should be a home win and Mallorca with under 2.5 goals is 27/10.
Getafe v Malaga (5.00pm)
Home win: 27/20 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 39/20
Key stat: Malaga have been beaten eight times in twelve La Liga away games this season.
Betting tip: Malaga are only in touch with the European places courtesy of their home form having won away only twice all season and having lost their last five on the road. Getafe aren’t in fine fettle either with no wins in four and only two scored. Malaga did win at the Alfonso Perez in the Copa before Christmas so the draw looks the best bet and 1-1 is 5/1.
Rayo Vallecano v Racing Santander (5.00pm)
Home win: 4/5 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 7/2
Key stat: Vallecano have won seven out of nine in all competitions
Betting tip: This is a tough one to call because the hosts and their visitors have two of the worst home and away records in the division respectively. What may swing it is Rayo’s decent form and indeed they gave Real Madrid a workout last weekend. Santander are in deep relegation trouble having not won in seven but they have drawn four of the last five. Nevertheless, Vallecano should be too strong. And if both score you can nearly double your money on the home win with over 2.5 goals at 39/20.
Barcelona v Sporting Gijon (7.00pm)
Home win: 2/25 Draw: 9/1 Away win: 22/1
Key stat: Barcelona have won eleven of twelve La Liga games at Camp Nou and boast a goal difference of +46.
Betting tip: Barcelona will coast this but without the suspended Lionel Messi they might not run up the cricket score you’d expect. They’re 5/4 to win with under 3.5 goals and 83/100 to win with over so the goalscorers market offers the best get-rich-quick bets. Pedro first scorer at 7/2 is the pick of the bunch.
Sevilla v Atletico Madrid (9.00pm)
Home win: 5/4 Draw: 23/10 Away win: 21/10
Key stat: Sevilla have won their last two after winning only one of their previous eight.
Betting tip: Atletico’s unbeaten run under Diego Simeone was brought to an end by Barcelona last weekend but other than that they’ve gone nine without defeat, conceding just two goals. Sevilla have won three of their last five at home but still remain in mid-table and both teams can cancel each other out for the 23/10 draw.
Sunday, March 4th
Real Zaragoza v Villarreal (11.00am)
Home win: 39/20 Draw: 9/4 Away win: 27/20
Key stat: Zaragoza have won one of their last nineteen matches in all competitions.
Betting tip: Villarreal have only won once away in the league all season but they won’t get a better chance to double their tally. Zaragoza are a mess and will sink without trace so the Yellow Submarines should clean up. 27/20 for the Villarreal win seems good enough to me.
Athletic Bilbao v Real Sociedad (3.00pm)
Home win: 13/20 Draw: 11/4 Away win: 4/1
Key stat: Bilbao have won eight of their last nine home games.
Betting tip: With Valencia faltering, Athletic are arguably Spain’s third team at the moment and domestically they have backed that up by losing only two of their last twenty games. Sociedad have won-lost-won-lost-won-lost-and-won over their last seven so going off that sequence they’re due a loss and I won’t argue. Bilbao with under 3.5 goals is 29/20.
Granada v Valencia (5.00pm)
Home win: 5/2 Draw: 12/5 Away win: 21/20
Key stat: Valencia have picked up five points from six games.
Betting tip: Granada are still hanging on in there and have won three of their last five league games and four from five at home. In contrast Valencia have won only one of eight but should still have enough for the 12/5 draw.
Real Madrid v Espanyol (8.30pm)
Home win: 3/25 Draw: 7/1 Away win: 18/1
Key stat: Real beat everybody apart from Barcelona.
Betting tip: Real are averaging over four goals a game in winning eleven of their twelve home games but have the fourth worst home defensive record. Espanyol have one of the best away defensive records but that should only help to keep the score down so Real with under 3.5 goals at 29/20 is the bet of the weekend.
Monday, March 5th
Levante v Real Betis (8.00pm)
Home win: 27/20 Draw: 21/10 Away win: 21/10
Key stat: There have been no draws in the last ten meetings between these two teams.
Betting tip: Had it not been for Levante’s amazing run during the autumn then they would be right in the thick of the relegation mire. After their seven wins in a row they’ve lost nine, drawn three and won three although they did record a confidence-boosting victory away to Espanyol last weekend. Betis are poor on the road so they’ll be happy with the point at 21/10.
