A friendly between Real Madrid and LA Galaxy as part of the pre-season schedule is set to see all eyes on new father David Beckham.
The winger is a former Real star and is now on the books of Galaxy and it has already been a big month for him, after wife Victoria recently gave birth to the couple’s fourth child and first daughter, who the couple named Harper Seven.
Beckham has spoken out ahead of the game about his time playing for Real in the era of the Galacticos, when he shared a pitch with all-time greats such as Roberto Carlos, Luis Figo, Raul, Zinedine Zidane and Iker Casillas.
“I’ve got a lot of great memories for playing for Real Madrid and this is the first time I’ve played them since I left,” the midfielder was quoted as saying by ESPN.
He added he expects it to be an “emotional” game for him, comparing the occasion to the match he played against Manchester United following his departure from the club.
There is also an interesting subtext to the LA Galaxy match against Real Madrid, as Beckham will come up against the man who replaced him in both the United and Real teams, the Portuguese attacker Cristiano Ronaldo.
LA Galaxy are the rank outsiders for the match, with bwin.com offering odds of a massive 25/4 on the Major League Soccer side to pull off a shock result.
Football betting fans who fancy Beckham to lead his team to a famous win could therefore pick up returns of well over £100 if they are right with their prediction for the game.
“I think one of my great memories is I played a 40-yard pass to Zidane and he volleyed it,” Beckham said of his time at Real.
He added he is sure it will be a good game, as well as competitive, due to the desire to win every match of the Real coach Jose Mourinho.
