The hugely one-sided La Liga title race may have been entirely overshadowed by the final stages Champions League this season, but Barcelona can take a decisive step towards the title with a win at Zaragoza on Sunday.
Barca are 11/25 favourites, with the mood of the club lifted by scraping into the Champions League semi-finals – where they will face Bayern Munich – with a 1-1 draw against PSG.
The Catalans undoubtedly possess the quality needed to see off a struggling Real Zaragoza side, who are 23/4 shouts for a home win and 17/5 to draw.
A woeful run of 13 La Liga matches without a win makes Zaragoza rank outsiders but surprisingly, there are elements in that run that should give them some hope.
Zaragoza have at least managed to become a tough team to beat at home of late as they battle to avoid being sucked into the relegation zone. They have lost just once at La Romareda in five league games – racking up creditable draws against Valencia and Real Madrid along the way.
Barca, for their part, boast just one away win in La Liga as they have perhaps become consumed by their dramatic Champions League campaign.
Should Lionel Messi not be risked this weekend as he nurses a dodgy hamstring, then the Catalans will clearly be denied their most dependable goal threat, although a 5-0 Messi-less win over Mallorca last weekend perhaps proved the great little man is replaceable after all on the domestic front.
Injuries to Carlos Puyol and Javier Mascherano have also made Barca noticeably shaky at the back, and you have to go back to November to find the last time the Catalans kept a clean sheet on their La Liga travels.
The upshot of all of this is that the trip to Zaragoza could turn out to be a reasonably close encounter. Odds of 31/50 are available on both teams to score, while a Barcelona win with three goals or more can be backed at 17/20.
