In among Chelsea’s battle with Manchester United over Wayne Rooney and Arsenal’s pursuit of Liverpool’s Luis Suarez and Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain, Manchester City’s own transfer activity seems to have gone strangely under the radar.
Even today, with the club on the brink of splashing nearly £20m on Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo, Man City’s summer spending spree hasn’t made many waves.
In fact, City are the only side in the top five to significantly dip their toe into the transfer lake, bringing in Fernandinho, Jesus Navas and Negredo for approximately £65m, with Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic likely to follow suit.
Quite why it has gone so unnoticed is strange, but conducting their business quietly will suit Pellegrini down to the ground as he tries to wrestle the title back from rivals United after a dreadful defence of the crown last time out.
However, a defeat to Supersport United, when City were well below par in a 2-0 loss, was an inauspicious start for the Chilean but his side can make amends with a win over Amazulu this evening.
A price of 19/100 on a City win is hardly giving anything away, though, so it is about finding a more favourable price – one that doesn’t include the 19/4 on the draw or the 19/2 on a home win.
Amazulu finished a distant 12th in the South African Premier Soccer League last season and given that they too are in the middle of their pre-season, it is hard to see them giving City too many problems.
City are struggling for strikers with Carlos Tevez gone to Juventus and Sergio Aguero not involved, but they still should record a win and the 53/100 that they do so by at least two goals looks a fair enough shout.
