Arsenal might be in action on the pitch this afternoon, but their fans surely want a little bit more action off it if they are going to compete with Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea for the top prizes next year.
A match against Vietnam is the immediate focus for boss Arsene Wenger, but as Chelsea continue to pursue Wayne Rooney, Liverpool play hardball over Luis Suarez and Real Madrid show little sign of letting Gonzalo Higuain leave, the Frenchman could perhaps do with some progress in reinforcing his squad.
With an apparent £70 million burning a hole in his pocket, the fans want some stellar signings to stave off the lingering suspicion that – shock horror – Wenger doesn’t have the inclination to spend or, even worse, that the much-trumpeted money doesn’t actually exist.
And where have we heard that before?
As it happens, the same squad that ended last year is in the Far East and with most of the players fit and ready to go, the Gunners will have no problems seeing off Vietnam in the 1pm kick off.
Arsenal are 7/100, with the draw at 17/2 and the hosts at 27/2, but a better way to get value is the 3/5 that Wenger’s men win by at least three goals.
The Gunners thrashed an Indonesia Dream Team 7-0 on Sunday and looked the far fitter outfit even at this stage, and they will have too much for Vietnam.
The Vietnamese haven’t won in five games, losing the last four, and are bottom of their Asian Cup qualification group.
Arsenal can enjoy another easy win, and the -2 handicap at 3/5 is the way to go.
