Despite conceding late on to draw 1-1 at Birmingham on Boxing Day and losing 3-0 in their previous away game at Reading, West Ham have been mightily impressive on the road in the Championship this season.
Their total of seven wins from their 11 away games is the highest in the division, while only Blackpool and Leeds have scored more goals on their travels.
Furthermore, they boast the tightest defence away from home, having conceded just eight goals.
So against a Derby side who have lost or drawn as many as they have won at Pride Park, the Hammers will be confident of claiming all three points. They are priced at evens to claim a victory, while a home win is available at 13/5 and the draw is on offer at 23/10.
The Rams have failed to find the net in three of their last five home matches, while West Ham have kept six clean sheets away from home.
For me, two bets stand out in the match, one offering slightly more value than the other, but both well worth consideration.
In four of their last five matches, West Ham have opened the scoring and they are priced at 72/100 to break the deadlock at Pride Park. In the most recent two of these fixtures, the Hammers have hit the back of the net inside the first six minutes.
Having conceded late on at Birmingham they will be desperate to claim all three points at Derby and expect them to cause the home side problems right from the start.
While the price of 72/100 is not huge, it is big enough to consider a medium-sized bet, especially when you remember how good West Ham’s defence has been away from Upton Park.
If they can restrict Derby, then the East Londoners have more than enough attacking threats to score the first goal.
The Irons’ defensive solidity is the main reason behind my second bet of the game – Derby not to score at odds of 33/20. The Rams have failed to find the net in three of their last five home matches, while West Ham have kept six clean sheets away from home.
Punters who use their free £25 bet for joining bwin.com on Derby to fail to score could walk away with a cool £66.25 if the prediction proves successful.
