A year is a long time in football. Twelve months ago the Hammers were enjoying a 1-0 win over fierce rivals Spurs at Upton Park, and despite a poor start to the Premier League season there was hope around E6. It proved, however, to be one of only seven wins of a miserable campaign which culminated in relegation and recrimination.
Quiet optimism is returning to east London though, with Sam Allardyce’s men unbeaten in six league games stretching back to the opening day of the season. In the process they have managed an impressive 15 goals, although the defensive deficiencies which plagued them last season are yet to be resolved, with the Hammers conceding six times at the Boleyn Ground already.
Nevertheless, the Hammers are 3/5 favourites to win their next match against Peterborough on Saturday, with the draw at 5/2 and an away victory for the Posh at 19/4.
However, despite Peterborough failing to set the world alight on their trips away from London Road, it looks like a bet on goals could be where the wise money goes, and the 27/20 offered on there being more than 3.5 goals in the match could prove to be generous.
West Ham and Peterborough are the second and third top scorers in the Championship respectively, and with Darren Ferguson’s men also leaky at the back – they have conceded more goals than any other team in the top ten – this encounter is highly unlikely to end 0-0.
With this in mind, backing that bet up with a wager in the multiple correct score market could also be profitable, with West Ham to win 2-1, 3-1, or 4-1 offered at 3/1.
A successful £25 free bet on West Ham to win 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 would return £100, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
Finally, if you are feeling particularly confident of a home win with plenty of goals thrown into the bargain then the perfect bet is a double on a West Ham victory coupled with over 3.5 goals scored in the match. This is offered at the 11/5 and when you consider the Hammers’ strong home form, their leaky defence and potent attacking options, it seems like a logical bet.
