A controversial appointment he may have been, but Neil Warnock has made an instant impact since taking over as manager at Leeds.
Having followed up their dramatic comeback win over Doncaster with a draw at Portsmouth and a home defeat against Southampton, Leeds are still on the fringes of the play-off picture and face a serious test of their promotion credentials at Hull this evening.
Nick Barmby’s team have put together their own play-off challenge on the back of an excellent defensive record which recently saw them go more than ten hours without conceding a league goal.
With a tight game likely, the home side are evens favourites in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with a Leeds win at 11/4 and the draw at 11/5.
Hull have done things the hard way this season, only twice winning by more than a one-goal margin and having failed to score in both halves of a game since December 3rd.
With nearly two-thirds of the goals Hull have scored coming after half-time, it’s worth backing them to score more second-half goals than first-half goals at 3/2.
Their lack of goals mean the Tigers have had to rely on clean sheets to win but they have managed 12 wins to nil already this season and are well priced at 11/5 to do so again.
But they will have a challenge on their hands to shut out Leeds, whose 0-0 draw at Portsmouth broke a streak of ten straight games in which they’d scored and they are 12/25 to get back among the goals here.
Leeds’ open approach under former manager Simon Grayson meant they participated in the second-most Championship games with over 2.5 goals but against the side who’ve played in the least and with the more pragmatic Warnock in charge, they’re unlikely to add to that tally here.
It’s 7/10 for under 2.5 goals, though Hull’s highest-scoring game this season was their 4-1 loss at Elland Road and if this game is also surprisingly free-scoring then Leeds, with 16-goal Ross McCormack, would become favourites.
Punters using the free £25 bet they receive when joining bwin.com would win £175 if Leeds did win a game of over 2.5 goals.
