Just Cardiff City let down the Championship Playing Away treble last weekend following their defeat to Crystal Palace, despite finding themselves 2-0 to the good at one stage, so here’s hoping it can go one better this weekend.
A cursory look at the fixture list demonstrates what a difficult league the second tier is to call, but here’s three sides that have arguably the best chance of winning on the road.
While backing just one of our trio could be enough to help you boost the odds on your weekend accumulator, new customers who use their £20 free bet on a treble triumph would see a return of £370.07 should all three teams prevail.
Blackburn to beat Charlton @ 29/20
Third in the table with 14 points from a possible 21, Blackburn Rovers travel to south London this weekend to take on newly-promoted Charlton, who ended a run of three straight defeats last Saturday with a 2-1 victory at Ipswich.
It’s rather difficult to comprehend that a manager would be in danger of losing his job having picked up four wins from his opening seven league games, but then again, this is Blackburn, and that’s exactly the case for the less than popular Steve Kean.
Rovers have lost just one of their fixtures this term, that coming in a 2-1 defeat at home to Middlesbrough in their last outing, and they’ll be eager to ensure they don’t face back-to-back losses following a bright start.
The signing of Jordan Rhodes certainly raised some eyebrows due to the transfer fee, but the Scotland international has quickly settled in with three goals in four outings for the Lancashire club to form what is looking a good partnership with Nuno Gomes.
Charlton, for their part, have largely looked impotent and devoid of ideas in their home matches, with their sole win at the Valley so far being an extremely fortuitous 2-1 success over Leicester City last month.
The Addicks were comprehensively outplayed by Crystal Palace in their previous outing on their own patch and Rovers should have enough quality to grab all three points.
Leeds United to beat Bristol City @ 37/20
Neil Warnock’s Leeds United head into this game on the back of successive victories, the last an impressive 2-1 home win over a strong Everton side on Tuesday evening to progress to the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.
That followed a victory over Nottingham Forest by a similar scoreline at home last weekend which ended the Reds’ undefeated start to the season and Warnock will be hoping these two results can kick-start his side’s campaign.
United did the double over Bristol City last season, including a comfortable 3-0 victory at Ashton Gate back in February, with one of the goals that day coming from Luciano Becchio, who has been in impressive goalscoring form so far this year.
The Argentinean has found the net on seven occasions in all competitions and he’ll fancy his chances of getting his name on the scoresheet once again in the West Country against a side that are yet to keep a clean sheet, having conceded 13 in seven games.
Leicester City to beat Middlesbrough @ 33/20
Successive victories and five goals scored in two games sees Nigel Pearson’s Leicester side travel to the Riverside this weekend brimming with confidence as they go in search of their third win in a row.
The Foxes are undefeated in their last eight meetings with Boro, with both of last season’s encounters ending with a share of the spoils, and in Dave Nugent, they possess a striker who has shown he knows where the net is in his last two outings.
The former Portsmouth man scored his side’s opener in a 2-1 victory over Burnley last week, before following that up with a hat-trick in a comfortable 3-1 win against Hull on Sunday to lift the Foxes up to eighth, just four points behind leaders Brighton.
This game certainly isn’t an easy one to call, but given their attractive odds and back-to-back victories, Leicester look a good bet to extend their unbeaten run against Tony Mowbray’s side, who have conceded five times in their last two outings.
