With plenty of Premier League, Championship, League One and League Two action taking place on Boxing Day, football betting fans looking to make a few quid before the January sales are certainly spoilt for choice.
For my money, sinking a few pounds on an over 2.5 goals treble from the Championship offers the easiest way to make a tidy packet before you hit the shops.
Because let’s face it, if there is one thing that the likes of Southampton, Ipswich Town and Burnley can promise it is goals, goals and more goals.
So why not take a chance on this treble? After all, you can capitalise on a free £25 bet for joining bwin.com to pick up an impressive £126.33 if our three selections come in.
Over 2.5 goals in Southampton v Crystal Palace @ 3/4
Southampton have the best home record in the Championship this year and their results at St Mary’s have been a big contributing factor in their surge to the top of the table.
With that success has come plenty of goals, with star striker Ricky Lambert enjoying a rich run of form in front of his home support.
The Saints are 23 games unbeaten at home and although last time out they were held to a 2-2 draw by Blackpool, the game marked the fifth consecutive Southampton home fixture to feature over 2.5 goals.
With 13 of their last 15 home games containing three or more strikes, odds of 3/4 on a repeat performance against Crystal Palace, who remain patchy on the road, should be snapped up.
Over 2.5 goals in Leicester City v Ipswich Town @ 13/20
A quick glance at the Ipswich Town goals for and against columns in the Championship table tells its own story. While the Tractor Boys have scored a credible 32 goals this season, it is the tally of 42 conceded which really sticks out for the purposes of our treble.
That number gives Ipswich the worst defensive record in the Championship and goes some way towards explaining their current lowly league position of 19th.
Much of their troubles have stemmed from heavy defeats on the road, with a 7-1 mauling at the hands of rivals Peterborough the pick of a very bad bunch for the Suffolk club.
Two recent wins have seen them get back on track, but the goals continue to flow at either end in their matches. Take their last two ventures away from Portman Road as examples – a bizarre 5-3 victory at Barnsley was preceded by the 4-0 thumping they received from Burnley at Turf Moor.
In fact, there have been over 2.5 goals in seven of the Tractor Boys’ last eight league games and with Leicester looking to get stronger at home under Nigel Pearson, that trend should continue here.
Over 2.5 goals in Burnley v Doncaster Rovers @ 3/4
Burnley’s form so far this season has been patchy at best, with the Lancashire club failing to put together a real run of positive results as we head into the New Year and the Championship begins to take shape.
While recent high-scoring wins against Blackpool and Ipswich Town have shown their capabilities going forward on home soil, they have been mixed in with abject defeats to the likes of Leeds United and Leicester City.
Despite this, Burnley fans have been treated to plenty of goalmouth action in recent games, with 23 goals scored in the last seven at Turf Moor.
With four of Burnley’s last five games also featuring over 2.5 goals, punters should be confident of a repeat against a Doncaster Rovers team that has seen three or more goals scored in six of their last seven fixtures.
