West Ham’s decision to splash the cash for Kevin Nolan appears to have paid dividends already, with bwin shortening the club’s Championship title odds to make them favourites.
The Irons were 7/1 joint-favourites with Leicester until the shock announcement that Nolan would be swapping the north-east for the east end.
With Nolan having signed a contract, West Ham have moved clear of Leicester in the title betting race and now stand on their own as 6/1 favourites.
As such, a successful £25 free bet on the Hammers to win the league, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £175.
Other clubs fancied to do well in next season’s Championship include Birmingham, Reading, Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough.
The Blues, relegated alongside West Ham last season, are priced at 8/1, Reading are at 10/1 and Forest and Boro are both at 12/1.
In addition to Nolan, West Ham have also brought in another player from the Premier League this week in former Stoke and Newcastle man Abdoulaye Faye.
Unnerved at the prospect of dropping down a level, Faye believes the Hammers will soon be back in the big time under the shrewd stewardship of Sam Allardyce.
“People may ask why [I am moving to West Ham] as the team are in the Championship but I am excited at the challenge to help get the team back to the Premier League, where I think the club belongs,” Faye commented.
“Sam is a very good manager and I am very pleased to be playing for him again – he gave me a chance here in England and he is someone who gives you confidence. He is also someone who I know the players will respect and I think he will bring a lot to the club – the fans will see this also.”
