Paul Jewell has continued to reshape Ipswich Town in his own image with the addition of Lee Bowyer.
With Jewell having taken over in mid-January, this is his first full transfer window at the helm of the Tractor Boys.
He is therefore moving quickly to change the squad he inherited from Roy Keane, with Bowyer the latest addition.
The former Leeds midfielder’s arrival comes soon after those of Michael Chopra, Nathan Ellington and Ivar Ingimarsson.
According to Jewell, the signing of Bowyer will help raise the performance of the players around him and presumably boost Ipswich’s chances of landing the Championship title.
“We’re obviously delighted to have signed a player of Lee’s quality,” Jewell said.
“Anyone who has seen Lee play over the years knows he is a winner and he will bring that winning mentality into our dressing-room.”
Ipswich are only joint-12th favourites to win the Championship title alongside Burnley in bwin’s football betting market.
However, their odds of 22/1 suggest that a first-place finish is not beyond the realms of possibility, and a successful £25 free bet on the outcome, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £575.
Bowyer, for one, believes Ipswich have what it takes to get back into the big time sooner rather than later and says he decided to sign on the dotted line because he buys into the club’s vision.
“Everything I heard from the manager was very positive,” he commented.
“He wants to get Ipswich back in the Premier League and I’m looking forward to playing my part in trying to make that happen.”
Ipswich’s first match of the new Championship season is against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Bristol City v Ipswich betting has the home side as favourites, with Town priced at 8/5 to take all three points.
