Paul Jewell’s Ipswich haven’t won twice in a row since 1st October but, after recording their first win in eight games at the weekend, they are 6/5 favourites to see off the challenge of a Derby side enjoying a similar resurgence.
Derby, 21/10 to pick up three points, are themselves looking for their second win on the trot, with four points from their last two matches having ended a losing streak that stretched back to October.
You have to go back even longer than that – 14 games to be precise – to find the last time that Derby kept a clean sheet.
Therefore, a safe bet this weekend should be on Ipswich to score and extend that run at odds of 9/50.
If, however, you reckon that Derby will end their defensive troubles and keep the home side scoreless, then odds of 333/100 will look tempting.
But with Ipswich on a similar run without a clean sheet that stretches back just nine games, and after taking part in an eight goal thriller last week, expect these two struggling defences to leak goals on Saturday.
Odds of 31/20 are on offer for over 3.5 goals in this one, while for over 4.5 goals the price is 18/5.
Portman Road has yet to see a share of the spoils in the Championship this season and these two teams haven’t drawn a match since 2005, making a double chance bet on there to simply be a winner, at 23/100, worth a look.
Odds of 23/10 are available, however, for the first draw in ten Ipswich-Derby games.
But looking at past results, it appears a Derby win is the most likely result.
Derby won both of last season’s meetings, with the fixture at Portman Road ending in a 2-0 Derby win.
With a clean sheet unlikely this time around, those looking to back a Derby win would be better to do so in the 1×2 Result And Over/Under 2.5 market.
At odds of 7/2, a successful £25 free bet on Derby beating Ipswich in a match with over 2.5 goals would return £112.50, with the free bet available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account.
