Hull are the slight favourites to beat Blackpool in this evening’s Championship curtain-raiser at the KC Stadium despite the Tangerines’ recent foray into the Premier League.
In with the chance of staying up going into the final day of the season, Blackpool’s 4-2 defeat at the hands of Manchester United at Old Trafford on 22nd May sealed their fate.
Since then, Ian Holloway’s side have lost a number of key players, including the likes of Charlie Adam, Andy Reid, David Vaughan and DJ Campbell.
Although additions have been made to the squad – with Kevin Phillips, Barry Ferguson and Matt Hill the most notable names to come in – Blackpool are likely to prove weaker than they were last season.
This helps to explain why Hull, who only finished 11th in the Championship last year, are priced at 11/10 to win in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with a Blackpool victory available at 21/10 and a draw at 11/5.
However, a quick look at Hull’s form towards the end of last season suggests Blackpool could yet be the most likely team to take all three points.
A successful £25 free bet on Blackpool to win, available to new customers who sign up for a bwin account, would return £77.50.
The Tigers had the fifth-worst home record out of all the teams in the Championship last season, losing more times than they won at the KC Stadium and picking up just 29 points out of a possible 69.
Furthermore, they won just one of their final seven matches at home in the last campaign and failed to keep a clean sheet during this run.
As such, Blackpool look like good bets to score at the very least, with odds on the Tangerines to hit the back of the net available at 17/50.
Another attractive market could be for the game to have more than 2.5 goals at odds of 17/20.
This is based on the fact that four of the last five meetings between the two teams have contained three or more goals.
