Watford host Ipswich Town this weekend with the teams level on 51 points as the Championship season enters the home straight.
Both teams have picked up 11 points from their previous six matches and come into the game after victories during the week.
The Hornets travelled to Bristol City and won 2-0, with Paul Jewell’s side beating Burnley 1-0 thanks to a goal by top scorer Michael Chopra.
With home advantage and a staggering head-to-head record in their favour, I’m backing Watford to edge it at 27/20.
They have won eight of the last ten meetings between the sides, with the other two encounters being drawn.
If an away win interests you, Ipswich are priced at 9/5, with a share of the spoils available at 12/5.
Elsewhere, Watford/Watford in the half-time/full-time market is an alternative route into a Hornets triumph which stands out at 27/10.
Sean Dyche’s men score only slightly more (23 vs 21) and concede a lot fewer goals (23 vs 32) in the first half than they do in the second half, whereas the Tractor Boys score twice as many goals after the interval and have conceded just 43% of their goals before the break.
Watford sit sixth in a table based purely on first-half results, which makes those 27/10 odds look appealing, but these statistics also suggest backing more goals after half-time than before it could pay off at 11/10.
A similar bet to this which interests me is for Ipswich to score more of their goals in the second half rather than before half-time at 8/5.
With only 19 goals being scored by Jewell’s troops in the first half and a whopping 40 goals coming after the break, this looks likely to happen again.
