Ipswich’s defeat at Watford on Saturday has all but ended their quest for a play-off spot but Middlesbrough, who Town host this evening, are still well in the mix and another win at Portman Road would solidify their position in the top six.
However, it is Ipswich who are the 23/20 favourites to win the match in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, while Middlesbrough are an 11/5 chance and the draw is priced at 23/10.
Ipswich’s five match unbeaten run was ended by a 2-1 defeat at Watford at the weekend and that result has left the Tractor Boys nine points off the play-off places.
Anything but a faultless run from now until the end of the season will therefore probably see them come up short in the push for promotion.
With six of Ipswich’s last seven home matches seeing over 3.5 goals scored and the same being said for four of the last five Middlesbrough away matches, a bet on over 3.5 goals looks to be the best option.
But they remain one of the division’s form teams and at home Ipswich have won their last five Championship matches, scoring 15 goals in the process.
That run includes impressive 5-1 and 3-0 wins against West Ham and Cardiff respectively and if you fancy another goal fest this evening, over 3.5 goals to be scored in the match is a 9/5 shot.
Middlesbrough have not won in their last four matches (drawn two, lost two) but they still occupy fifth place in the Championship table.
That said, they only have a one-point cushion over seventh and eighth placed Cardiff and Blackpool. On the road, Boro have drawn and lost their last two games but before that won consecutive away matches by three goals to one.
A 1-3 win here is a massive 22/1 with bwin but perhaps of more significance is that both teams have scored in six of Middlesbrough’s last seven matches, and that conclusion here is a 3/5 chance.
Looking at Ipswich’s form at Portman Road it is difficult to see past a home win but their slip up against Watford on Saturday could have taken the wind out of their sails.
If you fancy Boro to capitalise on this then a bet on an away win in bwin’s 2Way market offers a safe alternative to the 3Way option, with three points for Boro priced at 5/4 here and the stake returned if the game ends in a draw.
Either way, with six of Ipswich’s last seven home matches seeing over 3.5 goals scored and the same being said for four of the last five Middlesbrough away matches, a bet on over 3.5 goals looks to be the best option.
