So a conservative opening weekend in the Championship, which delivered just two games of over 2.5 goals, represented something of a let down for Goals Galore fans.
But considering the sides in this latest treble played out 145 league games featuring three goals or more last season, I remain convinced there’ll be net-bulging aplenty as they return to action in midweek.
It’s the three recently relegated ‘B’s I hope to bwinning with as Blackpool, Bolton and Blackburn have inviting-looking home games against Leeds, Derby and Hull City respectively.
With over 50% of the weekend’s goals coming in the games featuring these six teams, it’s easy to see why an over 2.5 goals treble worth 53/10 looks excellent value.

Over 2.5 goals in Blackpool v Leeds @ 18/25
No two teams combined for more games of over 2.5 goals last season than Blackpool and Leeds (a whopping 56, to be precise).
And with both teams opening the season with wins (Blackpool 2-0 at Milwall and Leeds 1-0 over Wolves) there’s no reason for them to stop their offensive approach.
Over 2.5 goals in Bolton v Derby @ 83/100
After the disappointing setback of a 2-0 loss at Burnley, Owen Coyle’s pre-season promotion second favourites will be fired up to justify their reputations in their opening Reebok Stadium fixture.
With an attacking line-up containing former England striker Kevin Davies, Team GB’s Marvin Sordell and Arsenal loanee Benik Afobe, they will be hopeful of doing so against a Derby side who conceded 32 goals away last term.
It should also be noted that no other team featured in more games containing three or more goals in the Premier League last season than Bolton (25 of 38) while a massive 14 goals have been scored in Derby’s opening two fixtures of the current campaign.
Over 2.5 goals in Blackburn v Hull City @ evens
The loss of Yakubu and Junior Hoilett doesn’t appear to have quelled Steve Kean’s attacking intent and that should pay dividends against a Hull side who didn’t travel well last season, winning just 30% of away games.
But with Rovers’ defence continuing to look shaky, there should be enough in this game for City’s proven Championship strikers Matty Fryatt and Aaron McLean to contribute to a high-scoring encounter.
