It’s a weekend where many football fans must balance the demands of supporting their team with finding time to grab those last-minute Christmas presents. But supporters of Birmingham City, Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers can expect some extra gifts as their teams face three of the Championship’s most generous defences in Burnley, Bristol City and Peterborough United respectively.
The trio have conceded over 130 goals already this season at an average of nearly two per game and facing attacks that put away 15 strikes in the last two weeks, it’s just a shade under 4/1 for them to all continue delivering games of over 2.5 goals.
New customers using the free £20 bet available when registering with bwin stand to win £98.60 if these six produce three or more goals again – and here’s why I think they will.
Over 2.5 goals in Birmingham v Burnley @ 4/5
Though Birmingham’s season hasn’t exactly gone to plan, with one of the pre-season promotion favourites struggling in 19th place, they have the chance to send their fans home happy for Christmas when they welcome the Championship’s second-worst away defence to St Andrews this weekend.
Burnley have shipped 24 goals on their travels this season and are currently on a run of one win in seven games. But while Blues’ 12-goal striker Marlon King will fancy his chances of notching again, Lee Clark can’t afford for his side to take it easy as Sean Dyche’s team have their own attacking weapon in 19-goal Championship second-top scorer Charlie Austin.
Over 2.5 goals in Ipswich v Bristol City @ 67/100
The only side who’ve conceded more than Burnley on the road is Ipswich; but fortunately, their record is much better at Portman Road, where they have won the last three.
Mick McCarthy will be expecting his side to continue that run against a Bristol City side with whom they share the division’s worst overall defensive record. With both conceding at an average of over two goals per game, regardless of the result, fans at Portman Road can definitely expect some pre-Christmas entertainment.
Over 2.5 goals in Peterborough v Bolton @ 31/50
Posh pulled off the result of last weekend in emerging 2-1 winners from their trip to Cardiff City Stadium, but unfortunately for Darren Ferguson, their record isn’t quite as good at home, where they have lost a league-high nine times.
At least Peterborough have begun providing the London Road faithful with some goals of their own, getting on the scoresheet in each of their last six home games, but with their porous defence Posh may struggle to outscore a Bolton side featuring Bulgarian international Martin Petrov, seven-goal Chris Eagles and ex-England man Kevin Davies.
