Derby and Brighton go into their match at Pride Park this evening having experienced similar openings to their Championship campaigns.
Both teams started well before suffering from slumps which caused them to plummet down the table.
The Rams now occupy 15th position having been in sixth place at the end of October.
Meanwhile, Brighton have slipped to 11th having fallen out of the play-off places on 18th October.
As their league standing would suggest, Brighton’s recent form has been better than Derby’s, with two wins recorded in their last three matches.
The Rams, on the other hand, have recorded just a solitary success in their last six.
But before punters use this as reason for backing an away success at odds of 33/20, it should be noted the Brighton have not won a game away from home since 10th September.
For while they have started to pick up results at home again, their performances on their travels still leave much to be desired.
Indeed, Brighton have not even managed to hit the back of the net in their last three away games.
As such, it is a home win at 8/5 which looks the best bet in bwin’s 3Way football betting market, with the draw available at 21/10.
But there are better options out there than betting on a Derby win.
Firstly, it looks highly likely that there will be more goals in the second half than there are in the first 45 minutes.
This is because both teams have made a habit of conceding second half goals.
Derby have let in 13 after the interval so far this season – 61 per cent of their overall total – while Brighton have conceded 15 of 20 (75 per cent) in the second half.
At odds of 23/20, a successful £25 free bet on there to be more goals scored in the second half than there are in the first would return £53.75.
Finally, a bet on the Rams to score first also looks a good one at bwin’s odds of 21/20.
On average, Derby score their first goal in home matches on 28 minutes, while the average time for Brighton’s opener on their travels is 56 minutes.
