Second-placed Southampton have started the Championship season well, but Nottingham Forest look tremendous value to kick-start their campaign at St. Mary’s at football betting odds of 29/10.
The Tricky Trees have not yet managed to find the form that has seen them reach the play-offs in each of the previous two seasons, and admittedly took a battering last time out against West Ham.
However, despite their early-season form, Southampton could be described as flat-track bullies thus far, having scored the majority of their victories over outfits tipped to struggle.
The Saints also suffered their first defeat of the campaign in their last league outing to promotion hopefuls Leicester.
Despite his frustrations in the transfer market, Forest boss Steve McClaren has plenty of firepower at his disposal, with the likes of Ishmael Miller, Robbie Findley, Rob Earnshaw and last season’s top scorer Lewis McGugan all offering a major goal threat.
As a result, they are likely to prove a much sterner test than the south-coast club have been used to so far, and Forest could add another victory to the 3-1 and 2-0 triumphs they scored in the last two meetings between the sides.
The latter victory occurred in a season that saw the St. Mary’s outfit relegated, but with a significantly improved squad and doubts about the visitors’ rearguard, I cannot see the home side failing to score – and so the 23/2 for a 2-1 away win this time around is a terrific price.
Odds of 47/20 for a draw are also worth a look, with the away side likely to adopt a more cautious approach should they take the lead. Indeed, Forest are a tempting 31/20 to score the first goal.
The more reserved punters among us may find that the 39/50 double chance for the draw or Nottingham Forest win is the bet for them, and the 23/4 for over 2.5 goals in the match looks unmissable.
A free £25 bet for new punters on Nottingham Forest to win at Southampton would give a return of £97.50 if McClaren’s boys manage to secure the three points.
