What started off as a season with high hopes is limping towards an underwhelming conclusion for both Leicester City and West Ham United.
The Foxes invested heavily in their squad last summer, paying big wages and transfer fees in a move which quickly saw them become favourites in bwin’s pre-season Championship outright winner market.
Meanwhile, the Hammers managed to keep most of their higher-profile players following relegation from the Premier League and were widely expected to make a swift return to the top flight.
Yet things have not quite worked out as planned, with Leicester staring into the abyss of mid-table obscurity, while West Ham’s inability to convert draws into wins has seen them slip out of the automatic promotion spots.
Southampton’s defeat at Middlesbrough on Saturday gave Sam Allardyce’s men a glimmer of hope of snatching second place from the Saints, but the five-point gap between the sides means the Irons must win at King Power Stadium tonight to take it to the final weekend.
West Ham are at 5/4 in bwin’s 3Way football betting market to do just that, while the hosts have been installed as 2/1 outsiders.
However, backing the draw at 23/10 seems the most tempting option here, especially when you consider West Ham have drawn seven of their last 11 matches.
Punters registering with bwin receive a free £25 bet and placing this on Leicester and West Ham to draw would return £82.50 if successful.
Alternatively, with the Hammers averaging 2.80 goals a game and the Foxes 2.61 goals per match, there could be a temptation to back over 2.5 goals in the game, which is priced at 18/25.
Five of West Ham’s last seven games have seen three goals or more, while for Leicester three of their last four matches have fitted this particular criteria.
So if goals look likely but a stalemate could also be on the cards, then backing a high-scoring draw could be profitable for a small value bet.
The price of 21/2 for the score to be 2-2 is appealing, while the 40/1 offered for 3-3 could be worthy of a small investment.
Recommended bet: Leicester and West Ham to draw @ 23/10 Outside punt: Leicester and West Ham to draw 2-2 @ 21/2
